Here's a link to an update of one of mr bruce's creations. I am mid way through but the light at the end of the tunnel is coming fast.

Neat paint technique, Prof. Is it a custom mix dark chrome, or a standard code?
|
It is a variation of applying chrome paint. During the process, it is darkened by varying the thickness of the reflective that goes over the base black. IIRC, If you stick to the basics, you get chrome, if you add more top coat, you get aluminum, add more and you get brushed stainless. Pretty complicated, and I am not a body man. I like it for its durability (automotive clear top coat). I like the weathered, polished look.
My body man is a hard-to-please custom car builder, and he liked the way it turned out. His only comment was that every single little pinhole has to be filled in order for the effect to be spot on. Almost all of that was taken care of in the primer/high build stages of prep. A few slipped by him. I said, "Hey! it's just a go cart!" He doesn't think like that about the finished jobs that leave his shop. Some info on chrome paint at his website--Welcome Krause Bros Inc http://boss302.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-VZ4jJJL-L.jpg |

2 years ago i've built similar one with the nick name of "mini-me slabside" ! http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/all-...-slabside.html https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-O...0052009692.jpg |
Looking great Paul. Now you have to cancel your regular plans and bring it to the Spring meet next year!

Oz,
Thanks for posting the link. Awesome way to build and race a mini cobra. Arizona, I got the little car from the guy that bought it from mr bruce. I talked to mr bruce about it and he said that it was too expensive to manufacture and that I have the only one. The running gear is complicated; separately, I would think the body could be done about like a hardtop--under $2K? Regards, Paul |
I got the molds sitting here collecting dust, E-mail me if you want a body and I'll lay one up for you., If you want one complete with the frame, coil over suspension, big motor, etc, that's no problem too, just bring your wallet

mr bruce,
Thanks for chiming in on this thread. I have this go cart and I have one of your Le Mans tops with the 4" extension to fit a Lone Star. Your fiberglass work is top-notch. Thanks for helping the hobby. Regards, Paul Dallas |
