TKO 3550 grinding in 4th
Just returned from a great cruise in the Black Hills of SD with ten other Cobras. During the last couple of runs including the haul from Deadwood to the Rapid City airport, the trany would shift fine when cold but when warmed up it wouldn't go into fourth at speed--slow ok and it shifts smooth with motor off. I'm running a Keith Craft 408, Pro 5.0 in a Backdraft with GM Syncro fluid changed about 5,00 miles ago with 8,500 total miles on unit. Transport delivered the cars back to Dallas today and the problem seems to have worsened.Any ideas?

Welcome back Richard,
Glad everyone made it back safe and sound, barring Gary's starter and your shifter problem. Perhaps it is already on your list, but I would double check the fluid level, or even change the fluid alltogether. If you guys were driving hard and then experiencing cool nights, you might have some condensation buildup. I change mine after each time at the track. So far that is working out to two to three times annually. I am going through Amsoil synchromesh fluid at a good clip, but no problems (knock on wood). You might give Joe Diederichs a call at Standard Transmission and get his thoughts. |
Thanks John, we also lost two clutches, one "permanently" and the other was repairable. Odd sight watching a starter bang along underneath the car. It was a great trip---some of the best roads and sights anywhere!
