They would not likely let a super low ball price get by but a reasonable amount for a used car will likely be fine.

The hard part for me was it was registered in New Jersey as 2009 model and so could not change to 1965 in Texas.

i had to complete some form (130-U i think) that required the seller to state the sales price and sign. i asked the guy how much we HAD to put on there (wink, wink) and he said his dealership owner would not put one penny less than the price. ouch. oh well - it's only money.

Dallas area safety inspection

Any of you Dallas area guys have suggestions on a good place to get the safety inspection done? (Must be a master ASE per the form).

Took it to my dealership today and although I called them before hand and they said they could do it, they didn't actually have a master ASE in the shop.

Thanks,
John

John,
Take to Distinctive Motorsports in Plano. This place has also been known as Keith Craft, and C&S. Rob will take care of it for you--he's the best. Any dyno work that you want done will be done by Rob over at Dallas Mustang.

(New location east of Ave K on Plano Parkway--I got confused today but finally found it.)

In Texas posession is 9/10th of the law, if it does not have a brand on it, it's yours.
God Bless Texas!!!

Thanks Paul. I talked to them but they can't do the new inspection form.

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
John

DPS Waiver Site

John, my "assembled vehicle" has been inspected annually from day one at the Plano DPS Waiver Office. Phone 972-422-5428 for an appointment. Or try your Dallas County equivalent. You must have your forms and your insurance card stating that you are a 1965 Ford Replica, or some words to that effect. And a postal money order for the fee ..

According to them, all of these replica cars with period emissions equipment should be coming to the waiver sites.

Thanks Sam. I'll try that.

I just finished the inspection-titleing process and it was super easy. I took it to my mechanic who I've given thousands of dollars to when I had a SL600. The asked me to honk the horn and turn on the lights, then filled out all of the forms to my satisfaction. Brian from Lone Star sent me all of the other papers and a check list to take to the tax assessors office, and voila. $900 later, tags.

I love Texas.

Sam, I made an appointment at the DPS office for tomorrow. In the meantime, someone suggested Bankston Ford in Frisco so I ran up there at lunch. They have done one of the new inspections and did mine with no hassle. Great guys.

So with the inspection in hand I went to the title office (where I ran into Jayscobras) to get my title. Oops, I mean start the title process. Got some new forms to fill out and places to visit first. Maybe tomorrow.

Oh and Jay, your comment about all the stolen parts on my car helped a lot.

Strange... I had to take it to a truck weigh station and get a 'Certified Weight Certificate', then take it to the Dallas Police Auto Theft impound lot and have them inspect it for stolen parts.

Returned those forms to the title office and walked out with a registration and title though, so I'm officially legal now. Quite a hassle, but worth the wait! :)

Congrats John!
