Sssammy Wins!

This past weekend, our own Sam Watson finished his CVAR Driving School by winning both of the Group 5 Races. His past track driving experiences with Run 'n Gun have certainly paid off BIG TIME!

Sam, driving his recent acquisition, a Vintage Lola Formula Ford, excelled through out the weekend overcoming the extreme heat on Friday and some stiff competition from a multicolored Porsche.

He not only won the First School Race on Sunday, but did a back to back win and was pulling away from the field in the second race. Sam said, "I couldn't see anyone in my mirrors so I figured I had built up a good enough lead to relax a little." You guys at Run 'n Gun have your work cut out for you...FOR SURE!

Here are a few shots of Sam...

Congratulations Sam! I look forward to the competition.

Wow! Who says the old dudes can't cut it.
Congrats Sam!

Thanks, Larry for the photos and Jody for the kind words. By way of explanation, CVAR runs old race cars of just about any type in 7 different groups. Last weekend was the semi-annual school at TWS, and it was intense.

The yellow "X" on my car signifies a novice. I have to carry it for three more race weekends or until I get signed off for my permanent racing license.

My 1980 Lola T540 weighs 900 lbs and is powered by a 1600 cc Ford Kent engine that makes 115 HP. Transaxle is a Hewland/VW 4 speed with ratios that can be tailored to each track. It is just a little faster than my 591 HP ERA Cobra

CVAR is running at Hallett the weekend before Run N Gun, so if the Cobra is not ready, I have a backup plan ... :MECOOL:

Good job Sammy, I knew you were fast but now you are starting to look like Jeff Gordon when he started in the Cup Series. :)

See you in a few weeks.

Sounds like a class change

Clois Harlan If Sam is getting this fast, We have 3 things to slow him down,
Add 200# to the truck of the car
Chinese inspection
Heavier throttle spring on the Carb.
Great driving Sam. :MECOOL:

They must have done something to the water down in his part of the woods:eek::rolleyes::LOL::LOL::LOL: Rick L

What do you mean, If the Cobra isn't ready? I thought you had the motor in...did you get some set backs? Like the new formula Ford! Congrats. I've been so busy helping my daughter look and now finally buy a house and now the wedding is on planning stages haven't even looked at the Cobra for a couple months. Maybe I need to retire and go racing again.........

It has been peeing $8 a bottle Joe Gibbs Single Malt Racing Oil on my garage floor (and on Gov Perry's highways). Something is out of spec in the vicinity of the rear main seal. Keith has the car in AR and they have been pulling the motor out of it this week. I hope to hear soon that it is repaired and ready for me to come get ...

Yes, you need to retire and go racing! I can attest that it is more fulfilling than working your a$$ off for a corporation. I am still waiting for my racing paycheck, tho'. The cash flow is all running the wrong way :(

That sucks.......I had a similar problem with a 427 small block in one of my SPFs and it turned out it was one of the rear oil gallery plugs were leaking. Threads where stripped from someone over tighting them.
