2002 Spring Meeting - an idea..

I would like to throw out an idea to the club for the spring meeting:

The Stagecoach Inn in Salado

http://touringtexas.com/stage/

They are very accustomed to hosting car clubs. I passed through Salado on the way back to Dallas from San Antonio last weekend, and a Rolls Royce club was having an event there.

I picked up a brochure and scanned it, but it looks like their web site has the same information. The scanned images are at http://www.bobworley.com/images

It is centrally located between D/FW, Austin and Houston, and AWAY from the crowded city traffic and freeway construction (it took me 2 HOURS to get through Austin last Friday at 5pm).

There are plenty of places to park, large meeting rooms, and lots of choices around central Texas for cruising - such as Stillhouse Hollow Lake.

Opinions??

We had a Ford Meeting there about 5 years ago and although it was a pretty neat place, I don't remember much being around it?
But maybe that's what we want. I sure won't miss that traffic we had in Austin, but I should talk, I don't even have another Cobra yet............

Looks nice,can we cruise??

Bobby,
I have looked at the StageCoach Inn every time we go to and from Austin, and have always thought it would be a good place to visit. Is there a good route to "cruise/poker run" around the surrounding area?? It seems that it has a lot of potential!

I'm all for the Stagecoach Inn.!!!! Good food and I'm sure some scenic driving as you go West.

When I was a teenager my dad belonged to a vintage MG club - he owned a 1953 MG TD. They had their annual meetings at the Stagecoach Inn. I remember going on poker runs west of Salado around Stillhouse Hollow Lake, and it was very scenic. They also used a state park at Stillhouse Hollow for an outdoor car show and picnic.

It is also scenic around Salado itself - Salado creek runs through the middle of town and there is a small park very nearby. There is also lots of non-car related stuff to do around Salado for the spouses - antique shops, etc for instance.

I would be glad to drive down and do some research around the area for poker run options, and also talk to the folks at the Stagecoach Inn in more detail about things such as meeting rooms, space for trailer parking, etc.

Not trying to be a stick in the mud but didn't we have a involved post a couple of months ago where the pres said the fall meet would continue to be in Austin?

Stagecoach looks good but I thought the decision had already been made.

No real biggy either way, just bringing up the point

Dennis,

Salado is only 45 miles north of Austin, which to me is still in the Austin area. Salado is just about equidistant from Dallas, San Antonio and Houston - very centrally located.

:D

This whole idea came to me after driving through Austin, where the traffic and freeway construction is just unbearable!! Salado just looks much more relaxing and enjoyable.

Have dates been set? Had too much fun driving in the rain not to come back next year.
