Big Bend Open Road Race - 2014
2014 Big Bend Open Road Race April 23 - 26 The April race takes place on US Highway 285 South from Fort Stockton to Sanderson and back (about 59.0 miles each way - or 118.0 miles). If you're interested in joining "TEAM COBRA" Please let me know. This will be year 5 for a group of Cobra owners from around the country 4 days of tearing up the West Texas Hills For more information go to Big Bend Open Road Race |
Bill,
It sounds like you have decided on the Cobra instead of the Mustang this year. What do you think top speed will be? Take care! |
Cobra is limited due to open car to 124 tech speed and 110 average. May be able to get into the 125 average and 140 tech if I run solo.
|
Bill, I really would like to attend this event with Team Cobra, as a spectator and/or course worker. However, this year may not be the one. I am working on my cobra build, my son's wedding is March 1st, and I will probably only get one weekend pass: for the TCC Spring Meet in San Marcos.
maybe 2015? with HM-2008? . |
Bborr
You know how to get in touch with me. You may want to try navigator position also. Occasionally a slot opens up. We start planning for '15 the day we're driving home from '14. :D
|
I live here in Alpine and will be available during this year's event. My work has prevented me from participating in the past but am retiring March 31st. I will be buying a Lonestar kit in late April and begin my build so I would love to help out or just meet other Cobra owners and learn before making mistakes on my own.
Thanks, Bob Nelson (432) 294-2089. |

Big Bend Open Road Race
Well, another one in the books. What a great week. Met up with old friends and made some new ones. Tim/Bill> You weren't in Kansas anymore, welcome to west TX. The 8 hour drive was great, F250 pulling the open trailer with a Nascar and FR500C on the back. Both running in the 140 avg mph division. Both were running when we got there and were running when we got home (BONUS Points). I was told I nailed it, < .500 off perfect for 4th place or (3rd loser). Not bad for an old fart with no navigator. The entire team did an awesome job. The Cobras represented very well, even getting some air time on CBS evening news. This video was put together by friends from Rock Springs via Bartley Motorsports> 2014 Big Bend Open Road Race montage - YouTube If you'd like to join us for next years event you can reach me here or PM me. Plans are already being put together. Pictures to follow. |
Nice video from Bartley. Loved CADZILLA.

I had the pleasure of accompanying Tim to Tx. from Ks. for this event and it was great! Everyone in the Texas Cobra Club and those associated with the race were extremely hospitable and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. Tim drove very well, and although we didn't place we definitely had a blast.
Thanks Bill, Jack, Larry(s), and Al for hosting us. Hope to see you all next year! |
mtpockets,
You say a couple from Rock Springs, TX attended? My mom and dad live in Rock Springs, TX and I thought they were the only ones... :) They have never seen a Cobra in Rock Springs. Anyhow, I have considered trailering out to this event from here in AZ for the past couple years, just couldn't make it happen yet. I could combine it with a visit to the folks. I have driven the roads around there and down to Alpine on my way to the Ranch House at Big Bend Ranch State Park, but not in the Cobra. Anyhow, maybe I'll make it with my parents in tow next year... |
Thanks. Placed my order last Thursday. Expected delivery is end of may first week of June due to engine delay.
