Bow tie bandit has passed
Many of you DFW group knew My shop neighbor and good friend Dick Demets who was known as the Bow Tie Bandit outlaw fuel altered owner and driver. Dick decided last night that he was tired and in too much pain to continue his long and courageous battle against cancer. As of this morning the doctors removed him from life support and Dick crossed the finish line at 1:38 pm this afternoon.
In all of the years I knew him I have only one sad thought of him. Dick did not get the last glass of Glenlivet scotch that he loved so much before his diagnosis. God speed Dick. I will miss you. |

I don't know you or Dick, but your eulogy to your dear Friend and Cobra Brother deserve that we all raise our glass of Glenlivet and celebrate his life. Beautiful writing on your part. Sorry for the loss of your friend. May he who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb guide you home safe. Fondly Lou(Basque1) |
The first time I met the guy I liked him immediately. There was something about his demeanor I took to. I spent one hour in his shop making a lousy bracket which I still have. His suggestions and guidance made it work the first time. Honestly I would have taken way more time to do it. Dick could weld. I mean really beautiful welds that looked like they were poured out of a glass. I think Dick was one of the pioneers of altered drags. If you have a Demet chassis you have the best. I asked him why he still builds them and he said it was therapy not work. I understood.
You're a Prince Dick Demet and I'm proud to have known you for that small part of time. Hersh |
Jay,
I know the last 18 months or so were tough, but want to say that I am better for having met Dick. He met his challenge well, and I hope I can muster half of his courage. Blues for the Lost Days. John |
I have never met Dick but it sounds like the kind of individual we all would like to have in our company of friends. I wish him a speedy journey through the heavens.
