Gidday from Down Under!
Hi Guys,
I've got a business trip to San Antonio coming up in the first week of November. The plan is to get in on the Friday 31st October and spend the weekend getting over the 24 hours trapped in a cigar tube. I'm planning to get up to Austin for the F1GP to see Dan Ricciardo win another race on the Sunday, so I'm reaching out to my fellow Corba brethren to see if any one has anything planned for the weekend, or what else to recommend? Thanks, JC |
JC,
I will post up on our Austin Cobra Yahoo Group and see what we can come up with. My wife and I will be heading down under in the spring. |
Thanks Steve, appreciate that.

Jamie,
You have an email in case it went to your spam folder. |
JC,
Several of us working Tech at the F1 event have a free general admission ticket. Let me know if you need a non-seat, general public (grass areas) ticket. I worked Tech at the Australian V8 event in Austin. It was some of the best racing and pit action. Ausie Ausie Ausie Regards, Paul Dallas TX |
Hi Paul, that would be awesome. I was looking at general admission so appreciate the offer!
Yes those V8 Aussie's put on a pretty good show. Our boy Marcus is going OK in the NASCAR's but he likes to turn right as well.. :-) Regards, Jamie |
PM sent regarding details of F1 ticket (or tickets) that you might need.

Others on this forum, please chime in.
Let's show some hospitality |
Welcome to Texas!
Both Austin and San Antonio have lots of fun things to do. Hopefully some of the local guys will chime in and offer some specifics. John |
A huge thanks to the Austin Cobra Club for a great day on Saturday 1st November.
We started the day around 10:30 by gathering in a carpark to get the gang together, and what a day it was. Clear skies and sun shining, perfect Cobra weather. There were 6 Cobras, Hersh in his Roaring 40s GT40 (all the way from Melbourne) and an LS powered MX7. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...psa73237c7.jpg http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps11a64ae3.jpg Once we were all assembled we started the cruise south on I35 on our way down through San Marcos to the very pretty town of Gruene where we stopped for lunch. There really is nowhere to hide in a Cobra with so many people slowing down to take photos on both the interstate and through town and it only gets worse once you stop with high fives and fist pumps the order of the day. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps8278da61.jpg We lunched at Cantina del Rio which is a cool little Mexican diner with either tacos, burritos or burgers on the menu. The food was great and the conversation flowed with all sorts of questions about Australia and Hersh reminiscing about his trip down under. The only problem was the size of the carpark with several guys having to park down the street. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse1bdbe2d.jpg http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...psc05b5981.jpg After a great feed we took a very scenic drive up River Road towards Canyon Lake, with the road criss‑crossing over the river several times it is very picturesque. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...psfc9d8fcf.jpg http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps9628845e.jpg At the end of River Road we stopped at the Valero “gas” station in Sattler to decide the next steps. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...psc4534bfa.jpg http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps02d08686.jpg At this point several peeled off to make their respective ways home which gave us a chance to stretch the legs a little through the back roads, which I think took in Wimberley and Buda. We arrived back at Steve’s place mid‑afternoon which gave us a great opportunity to sit on the front porch and relive the day with a few cold MGD’s. So thanks again for all of those that made it along for the day, firstly my host for the weekend Steve, and Skip, Rich, Glenn, Hersh, Rosanne, Frank and Ted. Also a big thanks to Paul (Prof) for the F1 tickets. The day was amazing and great to see an Aussie on the podium. http://i839.photobucket.com/albums/z...pse689410e.jpg Looks like I’ve got the same trip next year so looking forward to catching up with the gang again! |
