Sam Watson Selling his GT40

Sam decided he wants another Cobra and put his CAV GT40 up for sales this weekend. Only a year old and very similar to my GT40. Very Nice!

Nice. But I never understand why they won't post a price.

Patrick, it's just a skeleton web ad right now. There is more to it that I have not approved yet. I did not intend for it to appear here until it was finalized. But if you are interested, just PM me. Or call Arthur at Earth, I'm paying him very well ;)

Sam

Well, if the ad is still under construction, that's one thing, but, over the years, we've discussed the old "call for price" gimmick. When you don't set an asking price in the ad, that implies that the price is variable. In other words, it will be different for different people, or different prices at different times. Why would this be? It really makes no sense, but sometimes it happens. If it's not variable, then it could mean that the seller just wants to make hard contact with you so they can attempt to "sell' you on the car, which connotes being annoyed unnecessarily by the seller, usually at dinner time or right before bed, or, more likely, by his agent who doesn't really give a shi* about you anway. Then there's the occasional "I don't have a price" ploy and the seller asks "how much are you willing to offer me?" That's particularly annoying, right up there with getting a call while you're sitting down for that steak that you just brought in off the grill. Now, on the other hand, there's the argument that putting "call for price" brings in potential buyers who would otherwise be "on the fence-post." Ehhh, I don't know... I think it tends to lose more potential buyers than it brings in. Mostly, it's just irritating. Like when people post a response on this board to somebody's technical Cobra question by saying "I sent you a PM." I always think to myself, why don't you just post the f***ing answer instead of telling everyone you know the answer, you sent it to the guy, but you won't post it for everyone's benefit?" Then they say "oh, the answer was too long, I have to talk to the guy on the phone, or some such crap." Just sit down and spend an hour writing a detailed answer for the guy that will benefit him and everyone else that does a search between now and Kingdom-Come. OK, don't get me started. It's Christmas week, after all. Joy to the world, etc....

I am curious why it would be for sale after only one year? Not what you thought it was?

These cars are never what you thought they would be. It's just a question of whether you like what they turn out to be.

My car is what I thought it would be. The one thing I underestimated was "sorting it out".
I have more little PIA things wrong with it than I would like.

I don't know what a GT40 is like. Not sure I am interested. If I was to add a car I think it would be a muscle car that gets some traction and put a big cube motor in it.

Beautiful car, good luck with the sale.

See, that was easy. Some of you guys should try it sometime. ;)

My fault for posting prior to the ad being completed as thought there may be some Texas Cobra guys interested and get a jump on it. Car is fantastic and very similar to mine. I think Sam just misses the open roaster wind in the face, seat of the pants HP of a Cobra...... A CAV roller today is $105,000 so you couldn't even come close to building this car for $125,000 considering just the RBT transaxle is $14,000 then Keith Craft 347 stroker and all the rest of the goodies. I love my CAV and if you have any interest in buying a GT40 you should take a look at this one!

I think everyone is safe. Sam is the last guy in the world who would call you and try to sell you anything.

Pete, were you able to keep your FIA? Which one turns your crank? Certainly two different animals.

G-Pete 12-28-2015 05:16 PM

Karl, the 289 is in new good hands (Dallas) - I have not driven the GT40. So, no telling right now. May this week I will fire the engine. My best guess is right now I'm 2-43 weeks out to the first go cart run.
