Houston Area Cobras-lets Roll
WHEN AND WHERE ----LETS DECIDE ON A TIME AND MEETING PLACE TO EXIT HOUSTON ON FRIDAY....SUPERFORMANCE FROM NEW ORLEANS WOULD LIKE TO DOCK WITH US FOR THE LEG TO AUSTIN.....
|
I'm guessing we're still planning on meeting at the Walmart at the northwest corner of I-10 and Hwy 6 (west side of town), on Friday at 1 pm more or less...and weather is lookin' good at this time!
Dennis, any updates on that? |
The plan is to meet in the parking lot of the Sam's Club located at the Northwest corner of I-10 and hiway 6. I plan to be there aroound Noon. I would like to hit the road around 1 so that we don't get into Austin during peak traffic time.
So far we have: me (driving) Steve W (trailering) Dwight M (trailering) Chad T (Trailering) Jim W & Gail B (trailering) Scott & Brandy R (Driving) Tom D (driving up on Saturday) Ken S (?) I think there are a couple more cars comming but I can't think of them off the top of my head and then there are a few people coming up that don't have their cobras ready yet. If you know of more people, just add them to this thread. If anyone has any questions, they can call me at 713-851-9872. I will send out another email blast next week. |
Yeah, you know I meant to say Sams Club...oldtimers I think.
Dennis, my kid and I'll be driving the Cobra and a chase vehicle(Explorer), with a few tools, etc. See you guys 12:30 or so! |
10 Important Tips on How to Avoiding Austin Traffic!
Dennis,
Ten little tips to help you guys avoid Austin traffic on Friday.:D 1. Leave Houston at 1:00 a.m. (on Tuesday) 2. Charter a helicopter 3. Snag a shuttle from the space center 4. Tell them you're with George W. ... 5. ... and you know where Dick Cheney's hiding 6. Buy a Humvee and go cross country 7. Steal a light rail train 8. Paint your car like a construction vehicle (including the orange cones) 9. Paint "Oklahoma Nuclear Waste Vehicle" on the side of your car 10. Have OJ drive you. Be safe and See ya Friday. Gregg H |
 I thought there were 14 prepaid, but Dennis' reply only lists 10 people going.
:D Robyn and I plan to trailer up very early Saturday morning. I understand that TownPlace has a large parking area for trailers. With my 57 ft. rig and my lack of parking skills, I really hope that there is plenty of wide open parking area awaiting me. There is a possibility that we will come up Friday evening (for the tailgate). %/ For the last 2 1/2 months, my engine has been pulled, torn down, re-machined, rebuilt and put back in the car. I spent Friday helping to get it going. I still have some minor overheating problems, but it seems to be getting better. I'm hoping that it is air pockets in the block/manifold (460s are notorious for this). When we filled the coolant system (and 'burped' it) for the first start, it quickly heated up (and I thought "OH, NO!"). We then added 1 gallon of coolant mixture when it cooled down, and it seemed to do OK for 15-20 minutes, so I brought it home. On several runs (lasting up to over an hour), I have still had some overheating, but I have added an additional gallon of water (including a quart of EngineKool wetting agent - see last week's thread on overheating). I hope that in the next couple of days, I get the situation resolved. (I also tried replacing the brand new Robert Shaw thermostat). Anyway, here's hoping that I can do more that just "show" the car in Austin. (I will be able to drive it from the motel to the garage, at any rate). Got some 'cool' stuff done to the trailer, so I hope that most everyone will 'get a kick' out of it when they see it. See ya' soon!:D :D :D Frank Newman |
Add
Morgan & Susan Arnold (trailering) The Newmans (trailering) A Superformance owner from New Orleans (trailering) Frank there were close to 20 prepaid but that included children and people that are going but not doing the Friday cruise or not taking a Cobra with them. So far 11 cars from this direction:3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: :3DSMILE: A far cry from the 1 car we took the first year. |
Total Count Todate
So who has the total count of members and Cobras who are comming to the Spring Meet this weekend?
|
Don't know the total count but I have 2 more cars from Houston.
Pete Gibbs (driving) Ken & Daniel Hancock (driving over Saturday Morning) |
Dennis,
Count on me and my dad for the Friday trip to Austin. We'll be driving with you and the others. Hopefully no rain this year. See you at noon. Mike Miller |
Cobra not ready yet, but 4 of us are tagging along behind Cobras. David, Linda, Paige, and Matt Shelton. Is 1963 Galaxie welcome? Later, David Shelton.
|
Fire that Galaxie up and let's go! Are you joining the convoy from Houston or will you be meeting us in Austin. I don't know where Kountze, TX is in relation to Austin.
|
I usually go through Houston to get to Austin, so we will join the group at Sam's @ 12:00 or 12:30 Friday. See y'all there.
|
I'll waive as I drive by
Sorry guys, I will be on I-10 at about the same time - however my destination will be Marion, TX for the IHRA Division 4 points race. The weather looks good - so have a good time - maybe one of these days I will be able to show up without a race scheduled the same time - however I have to race - worse than drugs.
Rockey a/k/a rocket man |
rocket man,
good luck at the races! You would have had the fastest Cobra at the meet. Of course given that you only have a 2 gallon fuel tank I think we could have all taken you on the range issue.:JEKYLHYDE Next time you get a chance, come by one of the Houston meets. Let me know ahead of time and I'll bring my Feb 2002 Kit Car mag and let you sign it. |
Brandy and I will see you guys Friday at 12:30.
Should be a fun cruise! Scott |
