Oil pans
Got a question,
I recently looked under my NEVER STARTED 428 from LONESTAR and noticed a distinct leak at the oil pan drain nut. Now this is really upsetting due to the claim that all parts are new. Upon further inspection :eek: the pan bolt is stripped out:mad: :mad: Now, I suppose that I am going to replace the pan and see that I may want a better pan then the stock. Anyone out there running something aftermarket that they like? What was the price and a local vendor?? thanks Todd "I'll finish it one day" Burnside |

No reason to buy a new pan. Go to your local auto parts store and ask for an oversize oil pan drain nut. They come in oversize and double oversize just in case you *uck up the oversize one. :D:3DSMILE::D However, I would call Lonestar and ask them for a refund. |
I looked at all aftermarket pans, and....
After looking at all factors, decided to stay with the stock 514 svo ford pan from the factory. The cast metal *cobra* pans were no where to be found, only had 6 quart capacity anyway, and:
The welded pans sometimes leak at the welds after use, and they sometimes do not mate up right with the bottom block threaded holes/rubber gaskets. In addition, you have to have exactly the right pickup for your pan/motor. Just a big hassle, and mostly eye candy. My motor is going to be cool enough without all that. So what I am going to do is have an oil cooler from day one, and add an Accusump very soon....both increase the oil capacity, and the acusump insures oil flow at critical junctures. Though the oversize plug will work, if you still want to buy another oil pan, I just switched to a Aviad pan and have a cast COBRA lettered pan and pickup that already has the bung welded for the oil temp sensor. It is about a two years old (640 miles) and has an oversized plug in it and works fine. Let me know. |
Look at all the pans in the Jegs catelog. A good pan with baffels and a windage tray is good for about 20hp in the upper rpms. Most people don't think of a pan as adding power, but they do if you get the deep sump, baffels and most important, a windage tray.

I have the Canton road race pan. Like it alot. Holds 7 qt. of oil I think and fit just fine. I am using a standard ford windage tray with it.

When the engines are remanufactured, they are not shipped with oil (therefore we were unaware that it would leak). We would be more than happy to replace it free of charge for you. The best thing to do in the future is to call us first. We are always more than happy to help any of our customers out. I did call. I believe the answer was "everyone is in Cancun". I then asked who built my motor and your answer was I don't know. You did give me a number but it was not to the place that built my engine. He did tell me that Lonestar gives him his oil pans, so you may need to check yours.
