Oil Pressure
 
I just started up my 428 and I was wondering what oil pressure would be ok? It sounds great and seems fine I was just curious. I am running an external oil cooler if that makes a difference. It seems to be around 50 psi. Using an electric sender from VDO

50 PSI at idle? That is fine, but what is more important is what it is fully warmed up at lets say 3,000 rpm. Should be at least 40 PSI. This also depends on the weight of the oil.

Todd,

You want to let the car warm up and then check the pressure. Rule of thumb is that you want 10psi for every 1000 rpm...usually mine runs above that mark....stay about 25-30 at idle and 60-80 while on it...but I have a high volume oil pump.

My 427 center oiler, with a Mellings high volume pump (and a stronger spring for high pressure), runs hot idle of about 45 psi, and up to about 75 psi when driving.
