Go to the link posted by Bob Worley and look at the top of the menu in the upper left-hand corner of the page--you'll see a link to waiver info. To qualify for the low-mileage waiver, you have to fail the test and a re-test, incur at least $100 of emissions-related repairs, and drive the vehicle less than 5,000 miles per year...

Hey guys...got this off the aircheck Texas site...

Vehicles have to meet the emissions standards for the year the vehicle is assembled. Vehicle manufacturers have to certify that their vehicles meet EPA emissions standards. A lot of kit car manufacturers also comply with this requirement. If you purchase one of these kit cars, follow the instructions on assembly, including the emissions components, you should be able to pass an emissions test just like any other new car.

Just as the EPA does not allow an individual to reverse engineer a vehicle to defeat emission standards, they do not allow an individual to build a brand new "old" vehicle to bypass emissions standards. It is possibe if you actually use old parts (like a 1965 engine, or complete 60s frame and powertrain) that the vehicle will be registered as that model year (replica), but this is a TXDOT issue. However it is registered, is how DPS inspection stations will test it.

hope this helps

So what are ya' gonna do

Todd,

Assuming you finish your car this year it will be assembled and registered as a 2002 Lone Star. What do you plan to do to meet 2002 emission standards?

Jim,

How about the waiver noted by Snakeeyes?

Jim
I called Lonestar today and the answer was that it is titled as a 2002, however it is registered as a 66 replica. I really don't know how but they assured me that because i use a pre 73 block, the car will be registered as a 63. They have been doing it that way for years so apparently the seasoned block is the way around the emissions. Otherwise, my brother lives in Parker county and it may have to be registered there!!!

You guys better realize that going to another county doesn't work
any longer! I live in Fort Bend county and own several cars and they all come due at different times. For the last couple of years I have seen the inspectors checking address on the insurance cards and turning down the Harris County people. These guys can now loose their licence which cost mucho dinero to get back!
