first run!!

Drove the Cobra for the first time today.....still smiling

Question...
My spedo is not working. Checked the wires-good. I am a little worried about the sending unit install. I am using the VDO gauge set that Lonestar gave---seems to be a good set but I was concerned when I installed the sending unit into the Tremec. Is there an adapter or special piece that I need. I just cant seem to see how it works in the tranny.. Anyone installed one can you give me a heads up?

Lots of power in the 428:cool: :) **) **) **)

Similar situation here

I have Autometer (electric) gauges, and the speedo may or may not need the special sending unit to mate to the Richmond Gear 6 speed overdrive tranny. So I bought that special sender and am going to send it to WCC with the gauges, just in case. Your best bet is to contact VDO directly, and ask them what, if any, adaptor you may need for the Tremec.

Kool deal Todd!!

I can only imagine the fun!! Can't help much with the speedo w/out looking at it. Does it work at all? Or just nada?

You got the seat installed? C'mon, you can tell us!!

I assume you have an electronic speedo, but what sender are you using and which Tremec tranny? Did you get a VDO magnetic sender, or using a stock VSS? Give me some detail and I might be able to help out.

I'm using a VDO gauge and needed to retain the VSS in the tranny, and even though it was said by many that the VSS should work, it did not. I ended up building a circuit to convert the VSS sine-wave to a pulsed square-wave that simulates the required VDO sender. Perhaps this is the same problem you're having?

Either way, send some more detail and some symptoms.

Cheers,
-Neil.

there is one seat!!!

The spedo sender has three wires coming from the sender, red-black-clear and a small rod in the center of the sender. This rod didn't seem to go into anything in the transmission. am I wrong or just dumb?

Pidler- I suggest you get your gauges and sender before you put the body on. there is a little modification needed to the tranny that is almost impossible with the car together.!@!

It is speedo. I just can't type

Cobra Dude 05-15-2002 11:20 PM

Ah-ha!

Look at this first pic -- only pic I had was with the rod out, but you can see where it goes in the center of the sender. That sounds like what you have. Won't work.

What you need is a gear over it as shown in the second pic. There's actually a little clip that's needed to keep the gear in place, but it's not in the pic.

That could/should be the solution. Call any of the Mustang places and get a gear to fit the Tremec. I believe the same one from a T5 would work.

Cheers,
-Neil.

Todd,

That little plastic gear is what you need. It is the same gear from a t-5 out of a mustang. I got mine from the Ford dealer. There are two different gear 17 & 19 tooth (I think) either one will work. The speedo from LoneStar is programable. After you install the gear find a highway with a couple of mile markers stop at one push the button on your speedo drive to the next push the botton again and you are set.

Todd,

That gear is the same for many fords. The one that I used was described as from an '84 Ford Bronco with a C4 trans. The trick is getting the right number of teeth to match your rear gears and tire diameter. Each gear is around $10 at any Ford parts dealer.

Thanks to all. I have solved the prob and I am ordering the part!!

agaian thanks!

BTW, get the stock gear (stock # of teeth). You usually change to different # of teeth depending on rear gear ratio and tire dia, but many times have problems due to the teeth not meshing correctly -- it eats the gear up. Since you have an electronic speedo, it should calibrate-able via some DIP switches etc in the back. If so, get the stock gear and adjust the speedo.

Cheers,
-Neil.
