Bumper Jack Observation

I was looking at my Shelby Cobra book (The Shelby American Original Archives 1962-1965) and noticed that the functional bumper jacks are all turned in. All the Cobras that I have seen on the road have the bumper jacks turned out. Having functional jacks inward (closer to the chassis) would have less stress on the jacks. Is there a reason why Cobas on the road (including mine) have their non-functional jacks facing outwards?

Just an observation for thought.
