FFR Spec Racer Delivered Today!

HAPPY 4th of JULY!

:D Well it was for me as my FFR Spec Racer finally arrived today via Stewart Transportation! Two local FFR owners and 5 other friends of mine unloaded it and put it in my garage.

We hope to have it up and running by October.

What do you MEAN October?
Get on with it. It should be out on the streets by the end of July. Even if you have to push it or pull it around.
Very happy for you. Next two-three months will be the best months of your life. Then it gets better.

Thanks for the Encouragement!

THANKS!

I appreciate the kind words and encouragement from all of you!

I have been inventoring the parts all morning and am putting them in the order of installation and setting up my plan of attack.

The engine is already at the engine builders being rebuilt.:3DSMILE:

I can't wait until I can make some of the events and meet all of the other "Cobra-ites" in person.

Regards,

Terry:LOL:

It's a great day.

Terry - congrats on the delivery of the car. Help me out on something...how does the spec racer differ from the standard ffr and tell us about your engine? Did you ever sell your Falcon?  :D

FFR Spec Racer Differences

First off, yes Dick I did sell my Falcon to a friend of mine in Marble Falls, Texas. As a matter of fact he went to his first CVAR driver's school last weekend. He has really enjoyed the car and got a "great deal" on it. :)

Differences between the FFR and FFR Spec Racer

1. The Spec Racer has an SCCA legal roll cage installed instead of a single driver side hoop. Also NASCAR type side door bars on both sides of the car. It also has front tubing running into the engine compartment for safety and stength.

2. It uses a 3-bar link set up with a panhard rod for rear end location along with coil over shocks.

3. It has a 15 gallon Fuel Safe Fuel Cell instead of the stock Mustang gas tank.

4. The doors are either fastened on are glassed in as they do not work because of the roll cage.

5. The rules require that we run a stock 302 fuel injection 1987-1993 Mustang engine with a stock ratio T-5 or Tremac 3550 transmission and a stock 8.8 Mustang 2.73 rear end. Also we must run Mustang Cobra R 17 x 9" mags with Kuhmo Victoracer 275/40 x 17 tires.

6. The Spec Racer can have 1 racing seat or 1 racing seat and 1 passengers seat. Also 5 point competition safety harnesses.

7. We run a racing windscreen and front spoiler to keep the front end on the ground at over 120 MPH.

There are other subtle differences but these are the main ones.

Hope that answers most of your questions.

Offer of Help!

Dennis,

Thanks for the offer of help! I will probably need some as this is all new to me and some of it is a bit confusing.

I am laying out my game plan now and should get started this weekend for sure. I am missing a couple of critical pieces but they are supposed to be shipped this next week. There is plenty to do!

Thanks again for the offer! :3DSMILE:

What are the limits? Obviously one can rebuild, etc.

Yes I know Art!

Ryan,

I have known Art for about 3 years from racing with the CVAR in my 1965 Monte Carlo Ford Falcon.

Art is really a nice guy and I will miss not being able to run the FFR Spec Racer in CVAR, however they do not allow "replicas or kit cars" to race in their groups!

5.0 Spec Racer Rules

Gary,

You can download the rules from the NASA site! Go to the section for Super Roadsters and then you will find the latest rules as to what can be done and what can't.

Of course you can do a rebuild, but NO steel cranks, special rods, trick pistons, porting, polishing, cams, or anything other than the stock 5.0 LX fuel injection system. You CAN NOT run the Cobra intake (upper or lower), Mass Air meter or injectors nor can you run the Cobra brakes front or rear. The NASA rules are pretty specific as to what you can and can not do. If you can not find them, let me know and I will send you the download link. It is about 16 pages long.

Regards,

Terry

Congrats!

Congratulations on delivery. How many FFR Spec Racers in the area? I've done some NASA HPDE's and really enjoyed them. Are there enough FFR Spec racers around to have meaningful events? If so, I'll drop my plans to build a track Mustang and look into getting a spec racer instead. Much prettier to look at in my opinion ;)

I just don't want to go get one and not have the only one out at TWS or other Houston area tracks.
