SuperChargers
I've been contemplating a Supercharder for my 351Windsor. It has a flat spot in the power band and I thing it needs to 'breath' a little better. Any suggestion??:(

If it were me I'd look for a better cam, unless you are really looking for added H.P.

What sort of compression are you running , type of heads , and cam ?? If you work on those areas you will have all you can drive.

I bought the car from a guy who didn't have all the paperwork on the parts, so I'm not sure what's in it.

Blowers are fun, but you have to set your motor up to accept one when you build it. Describe the "flat spot" to us here and we'll tell you how to spend more money.

Don't know what your budget is, but if you have the time and money building a strong bullet for your Cobra is a great way to spend money during the winter. As Mr. Fixit said, you have to build a engine to match your objective or plan. I have always found adding blowers, turbos, nitrous or other external power enchancers will cause bigger problem down the road if your engine wasn't build to handle the extra load. You need to determine how much you think you want or need. If you are not interested in doing that, I recommend you do a good tuneup on your Winsor. A properly tune Winsor usually doesn't have a flat spot. Spend a couple of bucks and take to a shop that has a chassis dyno put a O2 sensor in the exhaust system and find out what's going on. Do a compression check , a leak down test, if you don't know how or don't have the tools ask some of the guys in Dallas to help. You can email me anytime.

fubar - I'm with the others on this. As much as I love reading of others considering the blower route - you really need to get your engine specs right first. An untuned motor with a flat spot is definitely not a sound base for the added strain of a blower.
Get your specs and tune organised and enjoy your car for a while - we'll talk about superchargers later ;) |

I have to agree with #42
Norwood is definitely the person to see. All told, he has set something like a hundred land-speed records in various types of vehicles. He has even designed and built his own engine blocks. The first day I visited him, he was building a custom distributor (from scratch) that wouldn't interfere with other mods he put on a car.
But be warned, he can be VERY abrasive. David |
