Real or not Real?
Has anyone seen the Cobra over at Linbeck Enterprises? I think that's the name of the place? Anyway, it's only been at this location for about 5 weeks. 1 block west of the Toll Way, on Park, in Plano It's a black car, with a yellow stripe across the hood from tire to tire. It also has some text on the passenger side front fender "Terlingua Racing Team" or close to that. Sales guy said "it was Shelby's car at one time" I asked if it was one of the "new" versions of the old car, he said no, it was a real one. Who knows what he ment!!

find what what the CSX number is...they should be able to tell you fairly quickly...

Sounds like Bill Neale's CSX4000 car --- Bill is a local Dallas resident, member of SCAT (www.Scatracks.org) and a life-long friend of Carroll Shelby. If it is Bill's car, then it is definitely NOT a '60s original - it is a "new" CSX4000 series. Danged salemen.....
He is also a world-renowned automotive artist - www.billneale.com Enjoy! |
Typical Salesman
I think I spoke to this guy a couple of weeks ago at the Chucks car show on Park. Said he was selling brand new original '65 Shelby Cobras at Linbeck.
The guy didn't have a clue as to what an original was vs. a contiuation series or a replica. He said their originals were were $85-100K. I asked him, "Then why don't you sell them for $200-300K, because that's what original typically go for?" He just stood there with this dumb look on his face. |
I kinda had the impression the guy was not real up-to-date. Fist thing he said to me was, "yup, it's a 427!" I asked him if it was a side-oiler, he didn't know.:3DSMILE:

You don't even have to ask for the serial number. Just get them to lift the hood....or ask if you can and look at the tag on the firewall. Once you've seen that you can have some fun with the yokel. You might just casually feel the fender lip to see if it's a glass Shelby.

Bills 4000 is black with yellow terlingua markings...I believe they only made 5 or less this way.
They are selling 4000's and it just goes to show how stupid people are that they sell it as original 65's....shelby's yes...original no! 65 no more than mine... I may have to go over there in mine this weekend and see what they say. Matt |
CSX4000 Terlingua Cobras
Bill Neale and Jack Bell (Denton. TX) were Shelby dealer/ builders of CSX4000 Cobras under the name of Texas Cobras Ltd. They planned to build 10 of this edition Cobra, and I know they built at least 4 of them before they ceased operations. I believe one of these cars ended up in the Peterson Museum in CA. They commisioned a really slick Terlingua Racing Team emblem for the center of the steering wheel, to go with the paint and graphics.
Our car was built by them and their master mechanic Jay P. during 1997-1998. They also built a green Cobra with a 427 Cammer in it during that same time frame! At any rate, the Terlingua editions are nice cars. My wife wanted one! :) :) Fast Farmer |
Al this discussion about real or not real is somewhat beside the point. More to the point is original or replica. They are all real. If someone pulls up beside you and asks "Is that one of those fake Cobras?", just blip the gas a couple of times and reply "Does this sound fake?" Leave them wondering.
Many of our Cobra replicas can outperform the originals. Does this make them less real. Different maybe, but not less real. Live the dream with no apologies. Now representing a car for sale as something that is not is fraud -- either through stupidity, ignorance, or mis-representation. |
