I need more compression.

I have a 351w and have a 10-1 compression ratio. I would like to have it at about 14/1. What options do I have and what do they cost?

RACER X #99 12-31-2002 01:39 PM

$600 for a set of domed pistons.
With 14-1 compressiopn you only have one option., $5.00 a gallon race gas.%/

Hope this helps.

Better know what your piston to valve clearance is before you go buying parts.....

Is this for the street or track? High comp. motors tend to run hot on the street, not reccomended. You will also need to change the cam.

Fubar, Are you going to make the Austin Trip in February ?? db

Jack21 12-31-2002 02:12 PM

You do have another option.

Leave the CR alone, fill the tank with Premium, and enjoy the ride.

I have read through various DVSFII posts that most of the Gasholes could increase the compression by merly sitting atop the carb. after a night of raki and Steak & Lubes' finest foods.

That should boost compression right off the gage and may require O-ring heads similar to those of the booster rockets on the shuttle.

assuming your internals can handle it, you could increase compression rather simply by installing some form of supercharger. Probably wouldn't even need to be much of one at that. Maybe from a 3.8 T-Bird?

I'd also be wondering why you would like to do this. Maybe there's another way to get to where you want to be than drastic increases in compression.

I'll go along with Jeb

Supercharger. And $5.00 per gallon race fuel

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advice you guys. I have been told that I need new pistons (by Norwood) He recommened J&E's at 150 each. Kinda pricey but it's nice to know you got the good stuff.

Jeff Frigo 12-31-2002 04:49 PM

Shop around. $150 / piston is way too much.
