Looking for a junk 351w
I am looking for a junk 351w block and heads to weld in my motor mounts I have a 302 but the 351W is a little taller and wider .dont want to get my 392 out of its glass case due to the time of getting my cobra running .
Thanks Tony |
Good luck chief. My machine shop spent all day on the phone with core vendors and these things are getting more difficult to come by. I'll give him a call Monday morning and see what he can find you. BTW: Where is Lockhart to Dallas?

:)
Tony, I have a 351W block and heads you can use. Joe G |
The 302 and 351 motor mounts are in the same location on both blocks. The 351 deck is taller and that is why it is wider.
|
tony, the block is only 1 inch taller , cut a 1 inch chunk of wood and put under each head, you will be real close.
|
Tony, Fordnut beat me to it. Try it, all you need is a few longer head bolts and some 1" thick blocks.
|
I'm very sure (99%) that my 302 had a 8.2" deck height, and I'm almost as sure that the 351W had a 9.5" deck height. But the same principle w/the block of wood should work.
BTW, there is no such thing as a "junk" 351W. :3DSMILE: Cheers, -Neil. |
Cobra Dude, Yes there is such a thing as a "junk 351" You are invited to see this one any time you want. I was in the custom engine rebuilding business for over 30 yrs., and I can vouch that there are many that have met a timely end.
Joe G. |
Neil, you are 100% right, 302 is 8.2". I was thinking 351 Cleveland 9.2" whereas 351 Windsor is 9.5" deck height. They say the memory is the first to go!

Thanks
Hey Joe
Thanks that's the best news I have had all week !!!! As clean as your place was I would not even would have thought you had one laying around .Now to get to your place .Will email you soon. Racer X I am putting the engine a little further back than most Cobras and want to make sure the header do not interfere with anything .Thanks for the info guys its always helpful to know how when and where .Sorry for calling it Junk Cobra Dude you are really True Blue old Mate .Kountze its BIGGER than you thought .HA HAHA HAHAHAH A. BIG T :3DSMILE:  |
tony, I caution you to look at your drive shaft length. unless you have an IRS unit , your drive shaft may be too short to allow for good movement of the differental. my engine is not too far back and the drive shaft is only 12" long, just something to look at. Bob

tony,
u know the 351 is 3" taller than the 302. it is 1" wider the motor mounts for the 302 on my car are 14 15/16' one side and 14 7/8 the other for the 351W block they are 15" both sides measuring from the K member to the front of the mount where the bolt goes. if what these other guys are saying about 1" taller is true, then your motor will be 2" lower to the ground. can you tell me how many inches the bottom of the radiator is from the street? i am ready to fire this puppy up if i can get my radiator mounted. thanks tommy in bossier |
Ok
Good Point Ford nut will do .I believe CMC is 13 1/2 if I remember have to pull Cobra Dudes Cobra out of the weeds. HA
Tom you are also right I looked in the Ford Motor Sport Catalog and it is three inches But it will also depend on the oil pan so what is the depth of the oil pan on the 392w Create Monster ?????M6007-392 V belt ?????:D |
Yeah! I got 13" man! Mine's bigger than yours! **) :JEKYLHYDE :3DSMILE:  :p :MECOOL:
Of course, this varies by engine placement, engine type, tranny type, rear diff, etc, etc, etc. Cheers, -Neil. |
i am going to austin today and tomorrow but will measure the two pans when i return. the 351W is definitely a different pan and i suspect 2" taller than the 302. i'll let u know
tom |
Sounds like you've got it covered. Let me know if anything falls through by Austin, I'll drag one down to you. Hope you don't mind a hole in the side.

Tony, my driveshaft is 10 1/16" cl to cl length. I used Spicer#1350 series u-joints with solid crosses (No grease fittings). Pretty much bullitproof.
|
Ohh wee weee
Kountz looks like yours is the smallest .
Big T |
Didn't the Canadians build 2?
Deck heights on our beloved 351 Windsor? Isn't the 69 and earlier blocks like 9.4xxx and the 70's and later a 9.5xxxx? So, which one you want? I have a 69 std bore 4 brl motor complete. Make an offer! I'd love to trade for an old Hemi...
