Suggestion for 2005 Annual Event
I wanted to toss an idea out now rather than after we all leave Austin this year. Plus it's been kinda quiet on here lately and I think we could use a little discussion.
Our annual event in Austin is quite popular and the area gives us a lot of scenic driving opportunities. However, every year it is up to the same group to put something together. So I propose that the different local groups take turns "hosting" the event in Austin. Say next year it's DFW. They take care of the arrangements. Surely they can get a group to go down for the weekend and scout it out for February. Then DFW makes sure that when everyone arrives they are sufficiently welcomed and informed, etc. Then the next year it's Houston. Same deal. The benefits as I see them is that it takes the burden off the same group to come up with something new and fun each year. And the Austin group has an extra incentive (besides it being their backyard) to come out on Friday night and Saturday night to see what is planned. Seeing your city from an outsiders point of view can be really interesting. Thoughts, comments, etc??? |
This has come up before. Here is the link to the prior conversation http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...threadid=10031
this topic could get the traffic up on the site though:cool: |
Sounds great to me. I've done the planning for the past two years and I think we need some new members to step up and plan the activities and cruises for the future spring meets.
|
Sounds like Colleen just stepped up for next year :)
Way to go...unfortunately I will be out of the country from March until the following January so I won't be any help :p Matt |
I want to clarify that I don't want to take the annual event out of Austin. Just have the different local groups take turns planning it.
Dennis - I'm glad you posted that. That was well before our time in the club and I know moving it comes up from time to time. Historical background helps to understand the decision to keep it in Austin. Matt - There's no way you're getting out of this if I'm on the planning committee. Think of it this way - 2 weekends to party in Austin. :) |
I think we all like Austin and the Hill Country. What I'd like to see are more events during the year. I.E. we should plan something in Dallas, Houston................
|
I will be glad to help anyone in any way I can. The only thing I have a problem with is that no matter who is doing the planning, there needs to be guidance and suggestions from the local Austin bunch. They know the area best and can steer out-of-towners clear of some problems. As far as I am concerned, the weekend in Feb. and the host hotel location is in "stone". Only leaves cruise, restaraunt, and a few other details to plan.
Gary, I agree about more events. We had a good showing (Despite rain) at Tony Mendez's place in Sept. Not so good participation at Paul's event in Corpus (Quality was great, quantity was a bit low.) Due to weather? I don't know, last year could have been better and weather was great! All we need is something in Dallas and Houston. |
David,
You sure do put the rest of us to shame. You travel to anything we've got going around the state. We loved you coming up for Track Days back in January. Gave us a good excuse for a dessert night. |
Colleen,
You don't want David to get too involved, Hooters is not large enough for 150 people and 75 Cobras. |
Bob :D :D I think we can make it happen!
Maybe we could set up the "Texas Hooters Cobra Tour" Travel from one Hooters to the next, all across Texas. We can sample the wings, etc. and make notes, take photos, and such, as we go. At the conclusion of our trip, we can declare a "Winner"! OK, who's in?:3DSMILE: :D |
I'm with Gary..
Need to consider some additional events in North Texas and Houston. The monthly breakfasts/lunches are great, but some themed events, IMHO, would be desirable. Something like a run to the FW Stockyards and old FW.....I dunno. ?????? Bud:JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE |
Bud Man,
I like that idea. We don't do FW much and that would make it a highly enjoyable trip. Are you volunteering???? ;) |
I think we may have our first nominee for President next year....
Our first FEMALE President (if you don't count trans-gender Tom )? |
Colleen for 2004
Catch up James....I allready nominated her under the head count thread......Now we just need to get the word out so she will have the VOTES to win.
Colleen for 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 :D :D :D :D :D :D Gary |
oh sorry- I don't think to read the "sticky" threads much
|
Is this what happens when The Royal Rhubarb leaves his crown behind with you? It's been sitting in my office for several months now and I've been thinking it's giving off weird vibes.
