Sad and Humbling Evening for me

Dear TCC,

I have, in my home, surrounded myself with TCC pictures, memoribilia, and related cobra stuff. Even though I have been out of touch, there was not a day that went by that I didn't think of you.....

I haven't looked at Club Cobra since June of 2003, until recently. Last night, I decided that I was caught up on current events and decided to catch up on the missing 7 months of my life in TCC. I was a good hour into it when I came across the play by play account of Dick Flesher's battle for his life.

Needless to say, I was paralyzed with saddness as I read the posts. I could not believe what I was seeing. My wonderful wife Marie had to help me through reading all of the threads, and then getting to bed, as I was a basket case.

Dick was a wonderful man. Getting to see him in June was my last memory of Dick. It was a nice moment and conversation, a memory that I'll now cherish. Out first meeting on top of the Origin parking garage, February 22nd, 2000, was my first memory of Dick. I'll now cherish that memory for as long as I live.

The many conversations that I had with him before that first TCC event were with a stranger. A stranger that was persistant and determined to extract some organization from a group of cobra nuts and their desire to get together to look at cool cars.

It was Dick Flesher, more than me or anyone else, that formed the Texas Cobra Club. Because HE made it REAL and lasting. He created our website and organized our members. Thank you, Silvercobra.

Dick, I know you are watching down on us all..... and I hope you don't mind if I add this late condolence. I'm sorry for your family's loss, I'm happy to have known you, and I'm glad that you are in the presence of God. God bless you and your family.

As for this club, I am competely humbled by the amazing support and prayer that was shown for Dick and his family. You are the best and I feel honored to know you.

Sincerely,
Stretch

Tony,

I'm sorry for your loss as well. You've got a heart as big as Texas and when it hurts, I'm sure it hurts big. Sounds like your uncle was quite a man. It's nice to have something named after you to help the memories stay alive. God bless and hang in there.

It's always fun to see you....and it's good to be back in touch.

Starting the club

Guys,

Now that I'm a little less emotional and have calmed down a bit, I want to slightly add to my original email. Not only did Dick contribute more than his share in getting the club organized and off the ground, but so did about 40 other people. I didn't mean, in any way, to slight the effort of the other people involved in that first meeting. Brent Mills included. It was a joint and equal effort on the part of those 40 and that is what has made this group so strong.

I remember talking for way too long (cause I was at work) with Dick about the fact that we were both so excited to be helping organize the first meeting of TCC and NEITHER of us owned a cobra!! In fact, we talked alot about what color to have our future cobras painted! Anyway, I better stop while I can. I'm sorry if I offended anyone and I CERTAINLY wasn't trying to take any credit myself. It's been a group effort from the beginning and that's how it should always remain.

All my best,

Stretch

Stretch: I've heard of you and about you, but it's only now that I have an insight to you as a person.

First let me extend my personal thanks and graditude for your heart-felt post over the tragic loss of SilverCobra to our wonderful organization and most of all the lives of so many of us.

I am however, particularly bothered that someone read your post and took it upon themselves to contact you and put you in a position to feel the need to post an appology for such a wonderful post.

I wasn't around in those early days, but someone obviously missed the entire point of your post. Truely a sad time that we live in.

Thanks for the thread and welcome back Stretch.

For the last two months, ever since the '04 TCC Annual Meet has been in my "sphere of consciousness", there's not a single time I've looked at my Cobra that I didn't think of Dick. Each year, about this time, if I hadn't indicated here on the website that I was going to attend the Austin meet, I would get an e-mail from him, gently prodding me into making the commitment. I'll miss those messages, just like I miss him.

Charmer, glad to see you active around here again. Unlike the "general" Club Cobra populace, the TCC branch seems to do pretty well at not losing its core group of members, of which you are most certainly one. I'll never forget your enthusiastic greeting when my wife and I drove up to the top level of the Origin garage at that first TCC meet. Made us feel like part of the family, instantly--

Bob

I know what you mean, Bob. It was very hard not being able to get to see Dick or help in whatever way. But those are selfish feelings on my part. He's in good hands.

Thanks for the kind words and memories of that first meeting Bob :).

Thanks Richard, see you soon :)

Charmer
