Which Came First
Ok, lets see which came first, like the chicken or the egg??
Did you order your Car First, or did you order you Motor first?? I ordred my car first!! :D I knew what motor I wanted, but did not know where to begin to find it! So: Which came First for You? The Car or The Motor Just something to have a little fun!! :JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE The Royal One :D |
Car...way before the motor.
I had a hard time finding a 65 dated standard Sideoiler block that wasn't full of excuses..... Living in Cal at the time meant staying with a 65 - 67 block for emissions. Bud:JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE :JEKYLHYDE |
Neither/both/either, I'm confused!!
Wow,
When I ordered my car I placed a special order car as a turnkey, and when John jr. & I picked it up 4 months later we drove it home the next day. I guess this really means I could vote for each at the same time or neither, or maybe this is the cobra version of a hanging chad? I think I need a nap. John R. |
Motor.....then car.....then another motor
Got a little carried away! |
Which Motor
I guess I ordered the car first though I started with just the frame and suspension. Then motor 1. Then the rest of the car. Then motor, motor, motor and motor. All goes well the car will be running next week.

I'd known about the engine for about 30 years, but didn't need it. I ordered the car and called up the friend with the engine when we got back into town.

Motor first.
I could afford the engine easier than the Kit/car. I figured that I could build a motor while still researching which route to go for the vehicle. That was about seven years ago after seeing my first Classic Roadsters ad in a magazine. The $12.5K was too much for me at the time for the kit, and I'm glad it was. Never buy the first kit you look at, you can't possibly know what you really want yet. Anyway, I bought an old 1972 302 from an friend and tore it down to the last nut and bold with my son. Over the next few years all I did was dream about being able to afford the kit. To buy a toy car, I had to have play money. I had no play money with kids in day care. After three annual visits to Carlisle and numerous investigations, I narrowed it down to a B&B kit and then changed my mind to a Unique Delux Pallet kit. You see, the kids were no longer in day care and my cash flow was much healthier. Then last year I learned about Backdraft Racing and realized that I couldn't finish the Unique kit for the price of the Backdraft. I just took delivery of Backdraft #101 last Friday. Patriot Blue with White stripes, two roll bars, & autometer guages.:D Last August I went back to college after 20 years. I took Engines at the local community college to have access to the lab. I bored the block and balanced/blueprinted the entire engine and got an A for the four credit course! Hopefully, by the end of February I will have the engine fully assembled and attached to my T-5 and fully installed in the Backdraft. I owe many thanks to the entire clan of the CACC, and special thanks to Scott (my lab partner) for being an endless support of information and motivation to get this whole dream back on track about one year ago. Looking forward to seeing many of you at DVSFIV with my new roadster:MECOOL: |
I got the car....still waitin' for the engine to show up. Until it does, I'm peddlin' as fast as I can!

The frame and suspension came first, then the motor. However, I always knew what motor I wanted. I just had to find it.

My car was backed out of the transport so, the car came first, then the engine!!!! :D

I found my 427SOHC engine first and then had to search for a manufacturer who had the experience and expertise to professionally install it in my Cobra - hence ERA!!

HMMMMMMM
FIRST CAR BACKED OUT OF TRAILER, THEN THE FRONT.
SECOND CAR HAD THE CHASSIS, BODY AND ENGINE (351c0 THAT TOM AND I WENT TO SANTA FE FOR. THIRD CAR SAME BUT WAS IN SAN FRANCISCO BUT WAS PRIMERED. TOM AND I WENT THERE. FOURTH CAR WAS KIT AND UNFINISHED 302 IN CLOLUMBUS OHIO. I FORGOT IN WHICH ORDER WE UNLOADED IT. FIFTH CAR WAS IN ROLLA MISSOURI WHICH WAS ALL TOGETHER. SAW THE FRONT FIRST, THEN THE ENGINE. SO ARE THERE MORE OPTIONS TO THIS QUESTION?:JEKYLHYDE JAY |

Hey tfarhood,
I'd like to hear why you decided on the Backdraft. I'm in the early stages of decision making. I think I'm going to go engine first. I got look at Clay F's beautiful silver Unique this weekend. You can contact me on the forum but prefer email...deanr@hotmail.com. Look forward to talking to you. Dean |
On #746, the car came first. Then when I sold 746 and got ready for the next car, the engine came first (ordered), sorta. Then Doug Reed ordered the car color, etc that I wanted and while waiting on the engine, the car arrived and he sold it, #11**. Then when #1301 came in, it sat for a long time waiting and it almost was sold. Somewhere in the middle of all that the S1 arrived to keep me busy on a project. The garden snake (S1) was car first then engine.
Hey Jay, you got a big bottle of good scotch for austin. Flyin Freddie says you are the scotch mister. Richard Memphis Doug Reed sold 11** and I ended up with 1301, the engine came first. |
OH RICHARD
YOU CAN BANK ON IT:D

Planned engine in my mind 1st but ordered car first then engine!
|
I had my motor for about 4 months before the car was ordered...wasn't planning to, but I ran across a deal I couldn't pass up!
