baer brakes for a lonestar
Any one running Baer brakes on the lonestar? I want to put some on my lonestar and do not know what size to get. Anyone know what size to run? please let me know.

I guess no one knows:(
|
Todd,
give lone star a call. I know they have put willwood on in the past so they should know how big a brake will fit. I would expect baer to be similar. let me know what you find because after I switch to some 17'' rims I want to get some big front brakes too. Maybe by the end of summer. You may want to look at the Mustang Cobra R brakes. Lot of aftermarket carries these. you will get almost as good stopping power as baer for a fraction of the cost. John |
I think I can get baer's at a good price. Friend of a friend type deal.
I do not deal with Lonestar for anything, no offense but I will not deal with them, personal decision. I am running 17's now I have a wheel guy. Got my 17 inch torque thruster II's for $1100, wheels and tires! I think the 13 inch brakes will work. Todd |
If you go to the 13" caliper setups, you are going to have to use the 17" rims.
Basically, the axel is probably the 2" bolt variety, ford nine inch. You will have to tell whoever you are getting the caliper anchors from, that is the bolt size. ( you could actually measure the distance between the bolts and know for sure ). Remember, there are three major NINE inch ford rear axels, it would be a good idea to know which one you have. If you have an 8.8, I do not think I can shed any light. LoneStar gave you a twitch? |
I have Baer brakes on the front of my LS. They came from Lone Star. You may be able to check their on-line spec / price sheet without actually talking to them in person.

Guys, Call Mike Davis at Racing Superstore in Arlington at 817.417.6699. That's were I got mine Randy. Also you will need to change you master cyclinder for the front brakes to get them to work properly. Thanks, db

DB,
Good to see that you are back in town. We missed ya on Sat. You will have to tell me about Texas Driving Experience. RR |
Todd,
My car has 12' baer brakes on the front, and the stock whatever that comes on the 9"Currie setup on the back. But man, even with that, I really have to put my foot in it to stop. I'm using(I think) a 1" master for them. Maybe that's just the way non- power assist brakes are? Tim |
I have the currie 9 inch in the back. THe tilton brake setup. They feel real weak. I had a nightmare bleeding the brakes.

Todd,
I sure understand your desire for bigger brakes to go along with the BIG horsepower your running. I'll be following this with interest to see how it works out. |
Guys the larger the master cylinder the more fluid you are trying to move and the less mechanical advantage. Change your master cylinder it's very easy and will make a huge difference.
Another hint, SOFT PADS, most people put too hard a compound on their brakes. They have read somewhere that high performance pads are the best. BS !!! If you are a street driver, your pads probably very get hot enough to begin working, that why you will hear racers on TV say they are draging they brakes before a race to get them smoking hot so they are up to proper operating temp before the green flag. |
DB,
I sure am glad you knew what you were doing when you built my Lone Star. It really responds when I hit the brakes. The other peddles give quite a response also. RR |
The guy before who said something about mastercylinder and also pad compound has really good advice.
yeah you can spend a fortune on big rotors and four or six (or even 12) piston calipers... I went to the 5/8 diameter tilton master cylinders. When I still wasn't happy with my pedal effort I went to using Hawk Blue-compound pads and man - what a difference. The guys at Hawk tried to talk me out of going to that "race" pad, but they didn't understand the limited and high performance use of this toy vehicle. They thought some brake noise would bother me (like I could hear brakes over the engine). Hawk Blue pads are very aggressive and cut my pedal effort in half. |
Hey guys. I just ordered a 427 package from Lone Star. I was reading through the posts and had a few questions...
Don Barnes - What size master cylinder do you suggest? Todd - What is your issue with Lone Star? Business or Personal? All - What is wrong ith the 11" brakes that come standard with the kit? I just recently joined Club Cobra and the information paseed back and forth between members is great - a little daunting sometimes but great. Thanks GK |
Todd,
You have the same wheel package I am looking for. Will your "wheel guy" deal with anyone but you? The best price I have gotten so far for my 17x8 fronts and 17x9.5 rears is a little over $1800 from Newstalgia out of Tennessee. Thanks GK |
don't know where league city is but he does give good deals, best I have found in Dallas, he is on Harry Hines just south of 635. (across the street from the hole in the wall.) Don't know what he will do with you but give him a try. I forgot the name of the place but all my car roll on his tires.
The stuff between me and Lonestar can be found by doing a search on this site. I am leaving it to the court. Todd |
Todd........................
I had the Baer set up on my Lone Star. I had 16" wheels and ran 12" rotors on the fronts. With 17" wheels you can run 13" rotors. Follow Don Barnes advice and call the Racing Superstore in Arlington. That's where my set up came from and Mike Davis is a Lone Star owner as well.
