Ford Intake

Can anyone help me decode a Ford intake part# C9OX-9424B
I have gotten as far as
69 Torino or Farlane
This is a small Block intake so I would figure 302
But is this a aftermarket ford part or a Factory hot Rod part for a ????Boss 302 ????
Any info will help put this back on something worth wild .
Thanks
Big T

It's an over-the-counter intake from Ford or one of several reproductions
of the same. Does it have large Ford lettering on a pad just behind the
thermostat housing? There were reprodctions with a blank pad, Ford, or
Cobra lettering. There may have even been ones with Cougar lettering.
Check the port width versus height and look for 4 small letters stamped
on the bottom of the intake in one of the corners (back corner on thermostat
side, IIRC). If you find the letters I can tell you if it is real or a
reproduction.

The Shelby S2MS is a similar intake but has several differences. The C90X
is a high rise dual plane with two oval openings in the plenum (where the
carb sits). The S2MS Shelby high rise is also a high rise dual plane but
has 4 circular openings in the plenum.

> I have gotten as far as 69 Torino or Farlane

C90X intakes were never installed by Ford on any production vehicle so they
are not correct for any sort of a restoration.

It's not a Boss 302 part. Those had large 4V Cleveland ports. The C90X
was part of the old Ford Muscleparts plan to perk up 289 and 302 Windsors.
It was meant to match with a set of '69-'70 351W 4V heads on a 289/302.
The '69-'70 351W 4V heads had somewhat larger ports and valves but also
had large chambers so part of the kit was a set of domed pistons to get
the compression back, along with a solid lifter cam, lifters, and springs.
It's a pretty good intake for street driven 289 or 302, along the lines of
an Edelbrock Performer RPM.

I took a look at the Intake a little closer .
Here are some answerers to your questions .
Thanks for your help this is pretty cool .
I love Ford History /You know what I mean .

A: Blank behind water housing no number. The Ford Stamp number is on the rear of the intake

The only lettering /No. I found under the intake in a corner look like ------- OECO
Does that mean anything ?
Thanks again .

All the Ford ones had the OECO lettering. Not sure what it means, though.

There was some debate about the Ford ones having large Ford lettering on
the pad but I answered that question for myself by looking at the old
Ford Muscle Parts catalog. The picture on page 27 looks identical to the
C90X that I have, right down to the blank pad and threaded bosses. I also
have an article about the 302 Jack Roush built for the '79 Indy Pace Car
Mustang and it shows a picture of a C90X intake that is identical to
mine, except it has raised "FORD" lettering instead of the blank pad.
It appears Ford made two different versions of the intake, with and without
Ford lettering on the pad. I've been told the Ford lettered ones had
ports that are closer in size to DOOE 351W ports but mine has 289/302
sized ports as did the Ford-lettered intake I inspected.
