Looking for a Mustang
Howdy everyone,
I've been looking for a Mustang and hoping that some of you might have leads on these. These are my requirements... Must Haves: - 1965-1968 or 1987-1993 - Coupe - Clear title - Straight chassis - Good condition (mostly rust free) chassis, floors & cowls. Preferences: - Relatively close to Austin (Dallas, Waco, San Antonio, Houston, etc is fine). I need to see the vehicle in person before I buy. - 8-cyl vehicle preferred, though 6 cyls/4 cyls will be considered. - If EFI, then mass-air preferred. - Manual transmission preferred, but automatic is fine. - Missing or poor-condition interior preferred. A block of wood for a seat works just fine for me ;) - A/C preferred. - Preferably running/driveable. - Color doesn't matter. Acceptable: - Minor body damage on front fenders, hood, etc is fine. - Not running or in-middle of restoration is fine, but I don't want to have to do a complete restoration. Automatic disqualifications: - No 4-eyed (1986 etc) cars. - Rusted out & leaking cowls, floorpans, etc. - Convertibles or hatchbacks are a no-no. Anyone know of something in your area? Thanks much, -Neil. |
Well you will have no problem finding a 87-93 Stang. Problem is what you plan to do about engines and pollution controls. My 66 Fastback looks now like a GT350. I have a 450 HP FRPP crate engine in it, a 9" Currie Stage 2 rear end , aluminum drive shaft and a toploader. It's street legal and runs a 92 Oct gas.

Neil,
For the 87-93 I'd recommend hitting the local Mustang boards, www.DFWstangs.net and in Houston it's www.westsidemustangs.com where they have extensive classifieds. Plenty for sale, but you'll have to sort through a bunch to find one in good condition. Good luck in your search! |
Neil;
I know of a 65 Coupe being finished up as we speak and will be for sale in a couple of weeks or less. It is in Louisiana,here are the specs best I know of,can put you in touch with the owner........Also, he has a 65 Hi-Po coupe for sale,full 100% rotiserie restoration,all to original specs,less than 100 "shake down" miles on it since restoration.......... 1st coupe specs; 302,4V carb C-4 trans four wheel disc brakes 9" rear end (I think 3.50 gears) new paint thru-out,new interior GT clone,with the rear exhaust coming out the rear valance,when he restored the car,he put all the GT stuff on it including the stripes and decals,it is/was a very straight rust free car with 47,000 original miles on it.... This car has under gone a total restoration from front to back,top to bottom...... The owner told me he should have the engine and interior back in the car by this weekend and next week finish up the little odds and ends....... If you need any info or pictures,e-mail me and I'll put you in touch with the owner........... David |
I check DFWStangs regularly but not yet found anything interesting enough. I have hope for that site due the traffic on that site. I never heard of WestSideMustangs until now and am ecstatic -- been looking for a Houston list. But I spend a LOT of time in San Antonio lately so I'd love to find a local San Antonio Mustangs list. Would be very easy for me to view cars out there.
David -- a fully restored Mustang is not what I need and would be out of my price range. I need a test-mule for my electronics. The first thing I will do is to completely gut the interior, except for one seat for myself, then make a bunch of metal brackets and a flat metal dash for mounting and testing electronics. Depending on the engine in it, I'll probably take the EFI S/C 5.0 out of my Cobra and swap it into the stang. But I'd like it to be in decent condition so I don't have to repair sheet metal, etc. I will sell my Audi once I get the Mustang running properly. Cheers, -Neil. Cheers, -Neil. |
