Texas spring cruise
I had to run to Bonham today for a project, and found myself driving part of the route Jim W posted last year. For the 20 miles I was on, it was very nice. With the weather perfect this time of year, we need to round up the wagons and hit the trail. I say within the next 2-3 weeks. Maybe even a Sunday so we don't hit traffic. Or are ya too tired from Austin????
Any takers??? Anybody know any restaurants in Paris that could handle a few hot rodders? Also, are we meeting this Saturday? |
lots of question marks on that one, steve!!!
yes on meet saturday. somebody should post..... cruise sounds nice. regarding 'my' poker run. I have been asked to hold off on organizing it, pending information regarding poker run organized by SCAT or NTMC. ok. so it's on hold. sorry about that! put something together, Steve. A sunday is nice. plan it, and see who can make it. great idea. :) K |
Only downside on a Sunday cruise is that many of the restaurants in Paris aren't open on Sunday. At least that is what the writer stated in the article in Texas Driver magazine. %/ That's where I got the suggested route that was in my post. Other than, that, I'm up for the drive any weekend after the 15th.
:D :D :D |
Jim- hijacking the thread, but i hope you had an especially nice day today!
Happiest of Birthday's, my dear friend. :) luv always! your birthday buddy! |
Kristen,
Back at ya'! Happy Birthday to you too! Hope we can celebrate many more in good health and enjoying our cars and good friends. :D :D :D |
OK Kristen, quit hijacking threads
Now back on subject........I'm busy on the 21st, so let's plan for the Sunday 22nd. I'll look for a restaurant in Paris open on Sunday afternoon. Jim W, what location and time frame of departure from McKinney. Ya gotta give us Easterners time to get north. Then we would probably bail out and head south when we hit Highway 78 coming back. Chime in North Texans if you're interested. We can talk about this Saturday. |
I don't know that area at all, but when we posted on this last, Sammy suggested the following as a meeting place:
"Jim, there is a big retail/restaurant area at US75 and Eldorado Pkwy, just west of your point at 121 and TX5. If folks leave US 75 at exit 39 (Eldorado), an immediate right from the offramp will dump them into the parking lot of Texas Roadhouse. I suggest the group gather on the north side of the restaurant. Depart east on Eldorado to intersect Hwy 5 ... So, let's follow his suggestion and meet there between 8:30 and 9:00. Marge and I will leave our house around 7:30 or so and should be there close to 8:30. Hope we can get a good turn out for this, it should be a good ride and a lot of fun! :D :D :D |
Texas Roadhouse in McK
Steve, that's as good a place as any in McKinney to rendezvous. We met there for the Wolfe City Cruise last fall .. you came up to Wolfe City directly from Heath, as I recall.
I'd like to come along if I can hitch a ride with someone:) I don't have a Z4 anymore, I sacrificed it to get my tow vehicle .. Cheers, Sam |
There is a TaMolly's restaurant (Tex-Mex) ( http://www.tamollys.com ) in Paris I'll verify it is open on Sunday. Jim W, do you have an estimated travel time from McKinney to Paris. (and not YOUR average 110 mph) We should depart to try and arrive around 11:30.
Sam, I'd give you a ride, but you would have to walk the last 20 miles since I'll drop out and head south on Highway 78. |
Count Me In. I Should Have The Engine In My Other Car By Then And That Should Give Me A Good Shakedown Cruise Before I Put It In The Paint Shop.

The article in Texas Driver Magazine stated the round trip takes about six hours, so I assume one way is roughly 3 hours. So, if we plan to leave around 9:00 we should arrive around noon. I have never driven the route nor been to Paris so I'm relying on the accuracy of the article. Also, the writer stated there are about 35 restaurants in Paris, but many not open on Sunday. Surely we can find one that is open and suitable. TaMolly's sounds OK to me!:) I just checked the WEB site and it does show them open on Sunday.
:D :D :D |
Steve. if you 'kick out' on 78, does that mean the last half of the trip is not with the group, or just the last 'section'???
I would more than likely do whatever you do, based on my proximity to you. Of course i don't even know if I'm going yet!!! ( i want to, of course) ;) |
I've driven Dallas/Paris a hundred times. I dont recall the route used by the article, but the normal route gets you there in an hour and half from McKinney.......much less time if you are keeping up with Steve in number 11 car :-)
|
Oh, I so want to join you guys. Weather's perfect and I haven't driven since Austin.
I'll be down in the Hill Country at the Ranch. It's the Spring Work Weekend. If anyone wants to trim shrubs, rake roads or paint deer blinds, come on down! |
Here's the link to the original post that has the map and shows the suggested roads.
http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/show...ht=fall+cruise Lots of different roads there and back, not a direct route. :D :D :D |
