4th of July Parade, Heath, Texas (Dallas East)

Is anyone available to drive their car in a very small (1.5 mile) parade the morning of the 4th in Heath, east of Mesquite. I have 4 solder's on leave, training, or recruiting tours that we're honoring in the parade. 1 Marine (Kristen already wants him;) ), 2 Army and one Airman I think. All will be in uniform.:MECOOL: :MECOOL:

Jim J Cups, maybe Kristen (HLC) and myself are driving. I need another (more) Cobra(s)! This is one of those small Texas town parades where there are more towns folk participating than watching. LOTS of fun. They're even giving away free Popsicles at the end!!!!

This is an honor for me, any other takers?

Steve

Bro,
I'm so glad you're doing this! This kind of thing is a great thing we can do with our cars to honor those guys/gals. If Annie was out of the shop, I'd delay my trip to the Hill Country to do this!

jdean 06-28-2007 11:41 AM

I may make it Steve, depending on the weather of course!

hey,littlecobra 06-28-2007 02:38 PM

Steve, I'm 'in'. looking forward to it!
remember, i get the jarhead.... ;)

Thanks guys and gals. As of present time, there are only three participating riders from the Rockwall area. (they first had 4) And I have five cars. What a great problem to have. I'm coordinating all this with a grass roots group of parents who's son's or daughter's are deployed in Iraq or Afghanistan. If anyone in the Dallas or east of Dallas area knows of other soldiers who would like to ride in a small Texas town 4th of July parade, speak up.

John D. & Patrick, if no others are found, I wouldn't have a rider for you. So it's your choice to come or not. It's great that you're willing to do this.

Thanks

Hey Steve,

I have been in the Heath parade 4 times. My rides were a 68.5 CJ GT Fastback, A 69 CJ Mach 1, A 1950 Willys Jeep and My Cobra. My In-Laws live next to Rush Creek Yacht club so I will probably be there for the fun and games and free lunch at my In-laws.

Mark

Well...how about this!

Mark,

If you, Patrick and John show with the Cobras, maybe we can have a showing from the club and escort Jim and Kristen with the two servicemen. I just found out one of the Army works for Walmart, and they're not letting him off for the parade! Great "PR", eh? But the other two are talking with buddies. I understand all have done a tour in Iraq. I'll have more info later.

Jim & Kristen, I'm having some static cling name signs made for your cars. I've used them for homecoming parades before, and not a scratch. OK?

Oh yeah Mark, you might recognize me from riding precision lawn mower routines in the same parades.

hey,littlecobra 07-01-2007 02:59 PM

ok!!! :D :D

Jim Jacobs 07-02-2007 02:34 PM

OK WITH ME TOO!!

It looks like rain so far from the forcast but just let me know if you need/want me and weather permiting will show up

LuvDaBlues 07-02-2007 07:33 PM

3 riders only now.

It looks like the final count will be three. Two Marines and one Army. Schedules and not able to get off work was the problem for others. So John and Patrick, no need to make the trip if there are other things to do. Thanks for your offer.

Kristen and Jim, it's 8:00 AM at the Heath fire station. We'll get situated, apply the signs and the parade starts at 9:00. I'll bring coffee and donuts, or whatever your liking. If spouses or children would like, they can either be in the parade, or watch. We'll be done within an hour, we literally drive around the block, then it's free Popsicles at the park.

A great small town Texas parade.

Give me a call if needed.

hey,littlecobra 07-02-2007 07:38 PM

gimme coordinates on the fire station, please. Pass on the coffee and i shouldn't have donuts. gonna lose 10 lbs in 2 weeks. (well really i have about a month but vacation the end of July is gonna be a problem)

well ok maybe the coffee. ;) real sugar and fake cream??? should i bring my own???
I'm looking forward to the parade!! remember, I get a jarhead. :D
and, he needs to be cute, and preferrably not half my age.

LuvDaBlues 07-03-2007 03:31 AM

VERY easy:

City of Heath,
200 Laurence Drive
Heath, Texas 75032

For you, take 80 heading east, north on Clements (where the Knox gas station is BEFORE Forney) about a mile which dead ends into 740. Turn left, away from Forney. About a five mile country drive until the first stop sign which is 740 (Laurence). Turn right and you're there!

As for coffee, I don't drink it, but I can drop by Texas Roast (http://www.texasroast.com/) in Rockwall and grab some. Jim, how about you?

"K", don't worry, you and I have the Marines. Age? Probably mid 20's. With Jim being the only Vet driving (Army), he really gets first dibs. And that was escorting his brethren.

The mother whom I'm coordinating with confirmed the full dress uniform. So both of you bring something for them to sit on to protect the back deck. I'm using two terry cloth towels, and let their feet rest on the tunnel.

This should be fun. And I know you'll bring your camera.

Jim Jacobs 07-03-2007 06:46 AM

Coffee would be great!! I'll be there unless it's pouring in Forney or if you call me to say it's raining in Heath. I really hope the parade comes off, there's nothing better than small town parades and honoring our men and women in the military...................God Bless em' all.

hey,littlecobra 07-03-2007 06:48 AM

alright, got it! the cobra is on the lift, so some point today gonna switch the mustang with the cobra. in between the 10 minutes of no rain.
it takes me about 15 minutes to make the switch, but maybe i can go a little faster today! might even have to dust Pepe off while underneath. that's a headache!

don't worry about the coffee, but thanks for the offer. :)

looking forward to it!

what's the final call regarding rain?? (rainout)
you have my cell, so call me by 7:30 if there are any changes. Otherwise, I'll just drive on out if it's misty. A little rain never hurt anybody. ;) :D

i knew he'd be half my age. :JEKYLHYDE

LuvDaBlues 07-03-2007 02:08 PM

I picked up the signs, and they look great. I even color coordinated for the cars. Red for little "22", and blue for "Pepe" and mine.

If it's misting, we'll probably still "go". If it starts pouring during the parade, I'll make sure all the cars are out of my garage so we can make a mad dash to cover up. My house is within a mile of the parade route.

See you two in the morning. I'll call at 7:30 if it's canceled.

Thanks again!!!!!

hey,littlecobra 07-03-2007 02:13 PM

well that window of dry skies came, and i quickly swapped out the mustang and put it on top. Realized the Cobra needed fuel (after nearly passing out from fumes from racing fuel pumped at Hallett) so zipped to the exxon to fill up. came back home, did a little dusting, then zipped Pepe back in the garage, under the stang. Garage door down and ready to go!
Just got back from Party City, where i got a couple of flags and other decorations and some parade candy. Of course the next monsoon came between the grocery store and party city and then back home. Looking outside, and it is pouring!!!
not gonna decorate the cobra til i am actually AT the parade!!

keep us posted, Steve. :)

what is the rain plan?? is the city going on with it, rain or shine?? or.... making a call at the last minute??
I don't mind driving thru the water, but preferrably not while it's coming down! :D
