TCC March Meeting?
I know this maybe early and I am jumping the gun, BUT, I had so much fun last year I was wondering if there are any dates being explored for the March Meeting. I really don't want to miss this one and am trying to fill in my 08 calendar. Except for Spring Break skiing in Telluride with the 14 yr old I am clear for March. My Lone Star will be back from paint this week and I can't wait for the trip to the Oasis and the Sat. ride.
Thanks Larry Boatner |
March 27-30, 08.
The last weekend in March. Always. Thursday - Sunday |
Thanks,
Do we mind non-texans? There is a Lone Star guy from AZ who wants to trailer his car over and join the party. He races it at Phoenix Intl. Speedway and is a beautiful and fast machine. He has expressed alot of interest. I thought probably the more the merrier. Thanks again, Larry |
well we've had Freddie from Tennessee, Doug from Luzianna, a couple of other cajuns or wannabees, (thomas G) hmmm Brent from the nor'west came to visit one year..... yuup, i reckon we'd allow a dude from Arizona to visit!
It's not up to me, though. ;) |
We even had a father/son team drive their Cobra in from California one year. Non-Texans are definitely welcome!

We got them coming in from all over!
We have had Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Georgia, Washington, Florida, California, New York, New Mexico, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan that I can remember off the top of my head, so any and all are welcome!
We will get a post from our President or the venerable Austinites when we have the details set, but I must say the setup from last year was the best we have had yet, and my vote would be a repeat performance with three different groups hosting "dinner" in the open air theater of the parking lot! AND, this year...I am going to try and get a 'track day' set up for those who want to take a spin, at 'Driveway Austin' this March. If anyone appropriate from the 'Austin Cobra Club' reads this, would you give me a contact name/email etc., and we can start to plan this NOW.
'Driveway Austin' will be a 2.5 mile road track (NOT AN OVAL) with some fun elevation changes and corners (e.g. one that we are designing is the exact mirror of 'The Corkscrew' at Laguna Seca), just down 183 near the Austin airport. It is currently being 'graded' and then 'paved' ready for a formal opening of the full track on December 9th, and we have substantial construction plans for private garages, pool, clubhouse and commercial facilities all through 2008. Not sure exactly what buildings will be up by by March, but I will post a track layout on my picture page as soon as I can and let everyone know. The 34' wide track will be cut through the trees in about 90 acres of land between a loop of the Colorado river just 5 minutes from downtown Austin. We are modelling the look & feel on some European tracks, and the closeness of the trees will lend an air of enhanced 'speed perception' as you roar down the back straight. The first four pictures on 'my page' show just a little bit of what the current 3/4 mile track looks like, although this will be the ONLY part of the track that isn't cut through the trees. Should be a fun circuit, and as I am on the board of directors of Driveway Austin, I would LOVE to help host those Cobra owners who would like to 'stretch' their cars for a day! Perhaps not for everyone, but perhaps an option for some on the Saturday or Sunday! Glyn |
Glyn that sounds awesome!!
Our Saturday is usually pretty filled with hill country cruise and Sunday is usually a pack up day. But Thursday or Friday might be good and those that want to track can arrive a day early. |
WOW!
Thanks Glyn. This sounds like so much fun. I may have to bring the Cobra and the GT 40. I see a plan coming together. Austin guys, if you need me to help in the planning or execution I am more than willing. I also enjoyed the three nights of different cities hosting the tailgates. Are we for sure still at the Marriott so that I can make reservations? Let me know if I can help! Larry |
I hate to miss one of the best times of the year
This will be the first TCC meet I have missed. I wish I could be there, but I will be there in Spirit. Sounds like we are off to a good start.
Gregg H Operation Iraqi Freedom Baghdad, Iraq |
Thinking of you and all of our soldiers constantly, Gregg.
You will be missed. Truly. (not only for your excellent spring meet organizational skills ;) ) Spoke today to 'my 5th graders' about our service project. We are going to do 'operation sendoff' and/or 'meet and greet' at DFW. Also, we have 3 seniors at our school with brothers in Iraq. We are sending care packages and penpals and such with these 3 young men. Awesome, inspiring, brave young soldiers. One is with the National Guard. We are all very proud of you all. :) seeya in austin in '09!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) kristen |
Sprint Meet
Glyn,
Call me or email me - I would like to go over the details of the race track. We will be having several planning meetings to discuss the details of the Spring Meet. Currently, I have been investigating some other options for the Saturday cruise - waiting on replies back from those people. This race track thing sounds interesting........... Dee Walters/Cammer 512-788-3346 deew2002@yahoo.com I have not finalized anything at this time with the hotel............every year we investigate other options for the hotel................so far no other place has been willing or able to provide us with reasonable room rates or enough parking to meet our needs. I contacted the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop............not enough onsite parking for our trailers & support vehicles - they were unable to provide us with reasonable room rates - were not enthusiastic about our event - don't think this is viable. Will keep all updated as things develop. |
Dee, if you or any of the other planners need any help, PM me.
Not trying to take anyone's gig away, just offering help. |
I found that folks from Tennessee were very welcome or hardly welcome (depending on ancestors). Luckily, the 4 or 5 times I attended the Austin event, I was in the very welcome category. Hello to all, hope to see you again. Living in Birmingham now, but had a cold beer or three with Fred Rice (Flying Freddie) and Ron Frohs last Saturday in Memphis.

Is this still true? March 27th - 30th?

The Austin Marriott North is very excited to have an opportunity to have our Friends with the Texas Cobra Club back in Austin. Please feel free to contact me if you need anything from the hotel. I know our staff and the community just love seeing you guys and gals rolling through town each year. We wish you a happy holidays and look forward to having you as our guests in March. God Bless and Drive Safe!

Austin Spring Meet
To All,
Plans are in the infancy for the 2008 Spring Meet...........I will be in touch with the Marriott soon to confirm our room block for this year. Most of the other agenda is still in the preliminary planning stages. If all are agreeable we can keep the same evening schedule for the 'tailgate parties' that we had last year...........going to be hard to outdo the Houston group party from last year........but maybe it can be done. Am looking at Friday lunch at the Oasis - everyone seems to like that - hopefully the construction will be done by then. Also, looking at maybe a track day for those who are interested at the new track that is being built in Austin - been out there - looks pretty good - more info on this later. Also, there some additional cruises that we will look into. STILL PLANNING - MORE INFO TO COME LATER!!!!!!! Dee Walters/Cammer |
Very interested in the track day, Dee.
As far as the evening tailgate parties, Dallas plans on taking over the reigns as the best tailgate around!!! The Oasis was great. Looking forward to that place again. Amy and I went on a cruise down that curvy road out of the Oasis to the north (or west) and had a blast. Like a Tour De France road with lots of switchbacks - fun! Again, let me know if there's anything I can do to help out. |
The construction at the Oasis is essentially complete. I've been there several times in the last couple of months and it looks great. Rich, Steve, and I went to the Driveway this past weekend and it is coming along nicely. They expect to pave the long track within the next week or two. There is still a lot of work to do, but it should be pretty well along by March. It is a beautiful place. It is being set up as a driving school, not a race track, so it should be a great place to really learn how to drive the car. Looking forward to the March meet. Skip
