I'm getting released.... but there is one factor that is beyond my control... Flights. They are very unpredictable!!! If it's dusty or windy, they do not fly us out. Just cross your fingers that next wed is the most clear day with no breeze and that there are no equipment failures!!!

7 days!!!

Gregg(What's his name)? 05-07-2008 11:58 AM

I need Tom!

Josh is right weather plays a big part of getting out of Dodge. Weather looks bleak the next couple of days. Lets hope the sand man stays away. Friday and Saturday looks bad, but it should clear by Wednesday. Josh I hope to see you in Ali.

5 days! Gregg, hope to see ya! Preliminary weather reports clear!

Gregg, how will I recognize you? I usually hang out in the MWR tent. I sleep during the day. Hoefully will be headed to the airport on the last bus on thursday.

Send us old guys!

Greg, someone here must think I am 60 (not true, but getting closer) and sent me this. Hope you get a laugh out of it. Be safe and we'll be waiting for you to join us on a cobra run soon. Skip

Drafting Guys over 60
----this is so Funny & obviously written by a Former Soldier----

New Direction for any war: Send Service Vets over 60!
I am over 60 and the Armed Forces thinks I'm too old to track down terrorists. You can't be older than 42 to join the military. They've got the whole thing ass-backwards. Instead of sending 18-year olds off to fight, they ought to take us old guys. You shouldn't be able to join a military unit until you're at least 35.

For starters:
Researchers say 18-year-olds think about sex every 10 seconds. Old guys only think about sex a couple of times a day, leaving us more than 28,000 additional seconds per day to concentrate on the enemy.

Young guys haven't lived long enough to be cranky, and a cranky soldier is adangerous soldier. "My back hurts! I can't sleep, I'm tired and hungry" We are impatient and maybe letting us kill some asshole that desperately deserves it will make us feel better and shut us up for a while.

An 18-year-old doesn't even like to get up before 10 a.m. Old guys always get up early to pee so what the hell. Besides, like I said, "I'm tired and can't sleep and since I'm already up, I may as well be up killing some fanatical son-of-a-*****.

If captured we couldn't spill the beans because we'd forget where we put them. In fact, name, rank, and serial number would be a real brainteaser.

Boot camp would be easier for old guys. We're used to getting screamed and yelled at and we're used to soft food. We've also developed an appreciation for guns. We've been using them for years as an excuse to get out of the house, away from the screaming and yelling.

They could lighten up on the obstacle course however. I've been in combat and didn't see a single 20-foot wall with rope hanging over the side, nor did I ever do any pushups after completing basic training.

Actually, the running part is kind of a waste of energy, too. I've never seen anyone out run a bullet.

An 18-year-old has the whole world ahead of him. He's still learning to shave, to start up a conversation with a pretty girl. He still hasn't figured out that a baseball cap has a brim to shade his eyes, not the back of his head.

These are all great reasons to keep our kids at home to learn a little more about life before sending them off into harm's way.

Let us old guys track down those dirty rotten coward terrorists. The last thing an enemy would want to see is a couple of million pissed off old farts with attitudes and automatic weapons who know that their best years are already behind them.

If nothing else, put us on border patrol....we will have it secured the first night!

Share this with your senior friends. It's purposely in big type so they can read it.

I will be in ACU's

Josh,

I am down to 4 so I should be in Ali on the day you get there. I usually hang in the MWR tent wqaiting in line to use the phone. I try and call home at 1430 or 0630 CST. I am not sure what that time will be in Kuwait. I will also leave a message at billeting and they can give you my tent number.

Weather is looking good

Thanks Skip

That was some funny stuff.

I tell you these kids I have met are the best in the world. They are hard at it everyday. They dream the same things I used to dream about as a young private. Girlfriends, wives, getting a new car and going to school. They face danger every day yet they just keep going and going. I am proud to be here and witness some of our youth at its best. I wish more people could really see the bravery and guts these kids show. Too bad CNN doesn't like the US.

See you all soon

Gregg, I should be south in anywhere from 24-48hrs. Look for me in Kuwait. I spend most of my time at the MWR computer and phone section or watching TV in that tent (NBA finals will be on). I will likely be wearing a salmon colored, striped, long sleeved, collared, button up shirt and jeans. Blonde hair which is all screwed up because I got impatient and let the hacks at the barber shop cut it last week!!!

Hope I see you before heading out!

Thanks to everyone in Texas, and on this forum in general for your support!!! Some days, you guys are the only thing that keeps a guy going!

wtm442 05-12-2008 04:38 PM

Everyone over there - stay safe and hurry home.

But whatever you do, do not fly Iraq Airlines!

Have a safe trip home!

Josh, I hope we get to meet someday. I was born in Pittsburg, maybe on a trip back someday?
(just don't tell anybody in Texas I was not born here)

Take care and don't be a stranger on this forum!

Many thanks for all you have done for us.

Tom

I will be a member here for a long time to come!! I won't be online nearly as much once I get home and have a wife and daughter to spend time with and a racing hobby that I've already missed a few weeks of this season. Family first though!

I'll be in Oklahoma City from May 18th to May 22 if anyone is around!
