Engine Bits (oil filter adapter)
All,
I was in process of trying to get the motor plumbed up this weekend... and went to screw on the oil filter adapter...and the motor did not have the adapter out of the block so I could spin on a oil filter The question I have for all is what the adapter called and where can I get one? I went to a local parts store and it took them a bit before they knew what I was talking about... but then they said they don't have them. Since I am not sure what it is called I cannot search online to find where to buy it. Does anyone know what this is called and where I could find one?? Thanks Chris |
Remote oil filter adapter. Summit or Jegs has lots of them.

Tim,
I need the part the screws into the block. I have the remote oil adapter already... it screws onto the bit that should be into the block |
Call Canton Racing Products they should be able to point you in the right direction...The thread size and pitch for Ford is 3/4" X 16 pitch, I think. Canton will know...Mac

Many to choose from.

It is a Ford OEM part. Go to a dealer, wrecking yard, or volume engine rebuilding shop in your area. It is used on 221, 260, 289, 302, 351, 429, 460 and maybe others. It has a large diameter thread (over 1.0" diameter) and the threaded portion of 3/4" for the filter to thread onto. Take a large adjustable end wrench or (2) 3/4" fine thread jamb nuts to remove it.
This is what you are after (?) Some have a large nut on the end with the larger threads: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FORD-...Z1218557034343 Good luck |
Rick,
That is exactly what I am looking for. I assume the one with the nut in the middle (top of larger thread) would be easier to tighten and remove if necessary. I will see if one of the dealers around here have one Thanks Chris |
I had to buy one for my Dart block. I got it from Keith Craft.
|
The later models were like the picture. I'm sure there is a specialized tool but I used (2) 3/4" thin jamb nuts tightened on the threaded nipple to remove and tighten it in the block. I also recommend using locktite on the large threads. If the dealer doesn't have it, don't be afraid to go to a wrecking yard, there should be lots of them cheap, they don't normally get damaged in use.

stopped at the sam pack ford auto parts store and they had one... only $7.77 must have been my lucky day
Thanks for the help |
Just tryin' to help.............
It's a good day when you can buy something for one of these cars that actually does some good for under $10.00. |
Hey Chris did you get the pipes on yet?
|
side pipes are on... I need to get the clutch adjusted still and then the oil system hooked up. The clutch is going to be fun, sammy and i spoke at the last meeting and it is too tight and I need to adjust. Hopefully I can spin the throwout around in the bell housing or I am going to have to pull out the transmission (because I am not going to pull the motor back out)

Hole in Bell Housing
TX, Sounds like you have internal operated throw out bearing, if so a little trick I learned many years ago is to enlarge the access opening. That way you don't have to remove the trans anytime there is a problem with the internal throw out bearing. And you will have problems, trust me, be sure and make the opening large enough to get you big hand and wrench inside. Tip of the day, db :3DSMILE::3DSMILE::3DSMILE:

Don,
thanks... where were you when we bolted the thing all together ;) I was looking at the hole last night and it is going to be a challenge to be able to get to spin around without removing the transmission :( |
Always a phone call away, LOL, db
