My Mom and step-dad are spending the weekend with me to do laundry & get out of town because they still don't have power. They're in Tomball, just west of the Woodlands. They lost (3) 40' trees, all falling right next to, but not into, the house. They lost a roof vent, which caused some water into the attic. My step-bro in Pearland lost all the windows on the 2nd story of his house, with a lot of wind driven debris into the house. Still a lot of power out and signal lights out. It's wierd because while on the phone, I've asked them how wild it is about downtown or Reliant Stadium, and they haven't heard/seen any of those images. They don't know what's going on. So I find myself dictating news reports to tell them what we're seeing.
Nobody I know was injured, so all my prayers were answered. The rest can be replaced. |
We had a friend check on our house in Montgomery and got no damage
(thank you Lord!) and the power just went on there. Looking forward to my next visit. Glad we missed Ike. |
Good to hear Miles and Flip. Hope to hear from the others soon.

AHHH, the humm of the generator
We started day 11 on generator here in NE Houston area. We were very fortunate, this area was hit very hard. No damage to the house, no one injured and the weather has been nice. We have a little wager going on in the HCC to see who is the last one in the group to get power. I'm wagering its us. This is a good link/complilation of pictures. Galveston eastward to the Tx/LA border got smacked pretty hard. Takes a while to load but worth it.

Okay guys and gals (from the Houston area), what's happening? How's everyone doing? Haven't heard a lot from the Houston Cobra Gang. I hope you are all doing well since Ike. Let us know what's going on down there in your area.

Ed,
We have slowly but steadily improved here in Houston. Some on the Houston Cobra Club yahoo site had a bet going as to who would be the last to recieve power again. I think Bill won but it was close and alot of us spent between 1 - 2 weeks with out power and (OH MY GOSH) NO CABLE T.V.. I may have missed that the most, no speed TV or anything. We are still planning on our October meet in Conroe. Mark Bishop is in charge of all the arrangements and this is his latest info to all us. How about a couple of you from Austin joining in for some fun!! Dates are Oct. 10-12th. Larry Boatner All, Everything is still on for October. I have a call into Bob out at the KOA to get an update the status out there for that week. Several of the power companies have been staying out there while making the repairs to that end of the county. I believe most of that work is wrapping up so I don’t think they will be there during our weekend. I will put together the final schedule this week and get it posted. Right now we need to get a head count for dinner Friday night, breakfast Saturday morning, lunch in College Station Saturday afternoon, and dinner at the lake Saturday night. This way we can prepare the folks before we descend on them. For those looking for lodging there is a Super 8 about 3.5 miles east, and Best Western about 6 miles east of the KOA. There won’t be any problem leaving trailers at the KOA as parking at these two is limited. I will keep everyone posted if I here of anything opening up at the KOA. I will be working on a map of the drive for Saturday and post it as soon as it is ready. |
Houston Yahoo Group
Who handles the Houston Yahoo group. I was a member before I headed to Iraq, but now I am no longer getting the emails. Was wondering If I need to reregister?

Gregg, we are at Houstoncobraclub@yahoogroups.com. Everything is slowly getting back to normal. As of last night only 250,000 left without power.
