289 FIA /USRRC Tire Recommendations

It's been awhile since I have been here...really since I sold my ERA Street 427 in 2013.

I just picked up an ERA 289 FIA-USRRC car, and it needs tires. I put Avon CR6ZZ tires on the Street 427, and I am seriously considering it again. They sure have gone up since then though.

225/60-15 front
295/50-15 rear

I just wanted to know if there are any other vintage/period-correct looking tires that drive well, are safe, and have the "look".

Thanks in advance....any pictures of tires on your FIA replicas are appreciated as well.

I will be using MT ST radials. They are vintage in proportions - 245/60x15 fronts and 275/60x15 rears, so they have nice tall sidewalls. Reports I've seen have been complementary, and the price is quite good.
If you check out Allen's thread on the ERA page for ERA2124, he used the same tyres and had posted some pictures.

Cheers,
Glen

Cheers,
Glen

Avons are the only real option that will tick all of your boxes.

(edit. Didn't mean to sound elitist. I think there are other options that have the general correct profile and are fine for cruising. My thoughts are that the Avon's have the most period correct look in a radial and they far and away have the best grip and hence are the safest tire for a 92" wheelbase car with a stupid power to weight ratio. If you can afford them, there is no other equivalent choice. If you can't afford them, some other option is the way to go.)

Tires for ERA FIA

I am running Firestone Indy 500s with white letters turned inboard. 235/60-15 front, and 295/50-15 rear. Stance is perfect, ride and handling on the street is good, and price was reasonable. I have seen Avons on another ERA FIA and they look even better, if you can afford them.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d.../DSC021671.JPG

At vintage events, I see originals using Dunlop Post-Historics. They sure look outstanding but I don't know anything about them as far as DOT or anything like that. Only that they look awesome on the car!

I have an ERA FIA car and I just put Mickey Thompson ST radial tires on it
last month...235/60 x 15 and 295/50 x 15 as recommended by ERA. They
look period correct, feel quite good and they are priced right. The Avons
cost almost three times as much, last only half as long at best, and throw
rocks all over the side of your car. Sterling Moss would buy the Avons but
you are not him. The correct tire for the car is the Goodyear Blue Streak
[not the billboards] but you might not want those.

The "Blue Streaks" would be correct for an FIA Cobra but the sizes offered today are not the same as in the 1960s. There are other tires out there that are more dimensionally correct that you could give this treatment to....

CompClassics- Your tire treatment looks just right for the FIA...as does the
car itself! The Billboards were an 1980s stockcar tire as I remember, but since
they fit todays wide wheels, people use them. We had the Bluestreaks back in
the 1960s. What is the cost for your "treatment?"

Call John. Compclassics
Blue streaks or Avon.

Regular street tires are to hard dangerous.

Give us a call, we can usually perform the graphics on any tire but prefer the AVONs, 760-428-2177.
