Goodyear G7 Tires
Is anyone running the G7 tires on the street?
I currently have the Goodyear Billboards and love them, but will be replacing tires over the winter and have been considering the G7's. And I already know they are not any good in the rain. :D |
John, do a search for forum member MadMiles442 out of Texas. He was running them at one point (I have the downloaded pics on my laptop). He will tell you how they handled. I can send you the pics if you e-mail me.

Crazy Question:Tire Life Expectancy
Since we rarely wear out the tread on the tires, they often die from old age and sitting around. I am curious if anyone can provide their experiences with the life span of the Goodyear G-7, Billboard and the Avon CR6ZZ’S. When do they suffer from cracks, hardening and downright dangerous to drive?
Before you think I am crazy, I know there are many variables such as climate, actually driving versus parked time, etc. I am asking because I want to move away from 17” pilots, which are down to the tread bars but have lasted about six years. I started investigating the various race/Dot tires that are period correct for our cars and with my past experience with “race” tires on the street (Hoosiers TD’s) they are only good for maybe two years max. I am leaning towards the Avon’s but at…$1,500 for a set, I would hope they will last a few years. Thanks! |
Avons at VIR
I ran an HPDE at VIR with the Avons. They are about as good as the G7's. I did notice that the car steered easier with the Avons, the g7s made the steering "heavy". I have a 225 / 275 combination on a ERA FIA.
