Torqueflite 727 to manual conversion

Hi Folks,
I have an Aston Martin V8, 1974, it comes with a GM 727 trans as standard, I'd like to do a manual conversion, so I'm looking for a bit of advise.
I know there are specialists who do this conversion, but they charge serious dollar and I'm sure most of it is standard parts.
Apologise about it not being Cobra related.
Thanks
Martin

Martrin , to the best of my knowledge A Torqueflite 727 is a Chrysler trans.

Thanks for the correction, I'm a Brit, I only know its not a Ford:LOL:

A bit more info I've found, the bolt pattern is an A727A, which I beleive for a Chrysler small block and I'm looking to use a Tremec 5 or 6 speed trans with a suitable bellhousing conversion, got any ideas who makes them?

Thanks

Why not just convert the 727 to a manual? You will still have to shift all the time, but no clutch.

Easy to do with a valve body and it will rip your head off if you want between gears.

Any way of getting any pictures of the transmission torque convertor portion and assembly to the engine? If a stock 727 bolts up to the engine, then a Chrysler manual transmission bell housing should also bolt up. But, I suspect the 727 may have a modified bolt pattern or an adaptor to bolt up to your engine. If a Chrysler bell housing will bolt up then you could use a Chrysler 4-speed transmission or an aftermarket 5 or 6 speed designed as a replacement for the stock 4-speed.

727 is a Chrysler trans.
As far as a manual goes, I suppose you first need to figure out what the bell housing pattern is.
Could be small block, could be big block, or there may be another pattern they use?
Once you know bell housing pattern, then you can figure out conversion kits.
I know a few Chrysler guys who have fitted T56 in place of a 727, but this required major floor mods to trans tunnel.

The blue car in profile pic is Aussie Chrysler with small block and 727.

Yes, I believe older Jeeps and/or AMC products had a different bellhousing pattern on a 727.

I'm guessing the best prospect is to find a wrecked / damaged aston, in the same body style, and get the parts from it, tranny, bellhousing, driveshaft. Just beware, some crankshafts for auto tranny's are not drilled for a pilot bearing for the input shaft of the manual tranny.

good luck.

Thanks Guys,
For your help, I've found a company that makes suitable bellhousings for this conversion, Quicktime, they have various combinations, so I'm spoilt for choice really.

Cheers
Martin
