Doug Nash 5 speed transmission shifter
My car es equipped with a Doug Nash 5 speed transmission, the shifter is the short type and at times it is very hard to shift. My wife would like to drive the car but shifting is very hard for her. I am considering a longer shifter by Hurst but I cannot determine which model to buy that would fit. Any thoughts from anyone please would be appreciated.

The lever arm bolt dia and on-center are interchangeable between the "Long" and "Hurst" Shifter brands.
Richmond bought the Doug Nash trannies a few years ago. They recommend the Long Shifters as does G-Force (tweaked internals). I saw a note on Hurst website on the 4070015 kit. Warning it won't fit if you have 4 shifter rods. I have a Richmond 5 speed and it should not be difficult to shift (which is what the Doug Nash transmission later became). Before you spend the money switching from a short shifter to a long shifter, make sure your existing shifter is properly adjusted. The Richmond uses an external shifter and linkage. There are several bolts through the center of shifter assembly. If they are too tight, the shifter becomes very difficult to shift. I don't recall whether you'll need to loosen only the center bolt or the two bolts to either side.

3 years later, so hopefully you've got this solved by now.
If not, it's worth noting Hurst shift levers will bolt on as replacements for the Long lever, though you may need to bend it or space it to move it closer to the centre of the car. |
