Tranny Richmond to TKO 600

I'm Looking to switch from my Richmond street 5 speed (1:1 5 gear) to the TKO 600 (.82 OD) so far I have found that Southern Automotive has the best price on the conversion kit over MDL and American. Has anyone have any experience with the kit for Southern, I have read mixed reviews on their engine quality and wonder if they have issues with their transmissions.

I do not know that much about Richmond transmissions, but I always thought the nice thing about them was you could change the gearing in them reasonably easy. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to change 5th gear to an overdrive ratio instead of changing out the whole transmission? Considering all the issues people complain about with the TKO, that seems like quite a step down in quality.

Fifth gear is straight through. You can't change that ratio because there are no gears involved in the in/out path.

i believe the richmond 5spd, is the old doug nash 5 spd, a true close ratio tranny, that was designed to use a street cruising rear gear ratio ( about 3.23 or so), but now with the super low 1st gear, it was like switching the rears to 4.56's with the original 4spd. And yes, 5th gear is 1:1 like was said above.

To the OP: what rear end gear ratio do you currently have installed and what don't you like about your current Richmond setup?
