What’s this toploader worth?

Going to upgrade to THX as soon as the short shaft is available,wondering what I can get for myTL WR small input case #c5ar 7006-D, tail c70r 7ao-40-a w2. Case is 24” tail is14” tag is missing, rebuilt 6K ago. Hurst competition/plus With bronze shift linkage inserts 427 forward lever. I had it out recently to replace clutch it’s back in the car now. In Maryland

It'll cost you more to ship it than you'll get for it. Put an ad on Craigs List and try to sell it locally.

Its not a Cobra unit, can be used as one.
Guessing $600-$800 tops with linkage, depends upon who did rebuild as not knowing assume it's fair at best. Not std Ford linkage which is more $$, looks like Hurst unit?
Last one I rebuilt was >$2000 for the correct Ford parts rebuild.

Period correct originality can come at an impressively high price depending on how demanding you decide to be. Small deviations from 100% period correct originality can substantially discount the market value of a component not withstanding the high cost of all the other period correct components the piece may use.
Frequently functionality and durability can be had at a lower price point — especially if the car is not original.

I think with then shifter and if you guarantee the unit is rebuilt and works fine, $600 to $800 with the shifter sounds about right, might get a little more. Ask $1000 and be willing to deal or reduce the price. I bought mine which is just like that one for $350 about a dozen years ago and then had it rebuilt for $300 to be sure it was functional. Bought a used Ford like Hurst shifter for about $200.

I think DanEC is spot on. My brother paid $900 for the transmission, shifter and linkages pulled from the '66 Mustang we bought. It was not rebuilt but came in the car that had been changed to an AOD. We paid $5k for the car. Semi beautiful quickly restored car in a divorce sale. I love divorce sales.

Top loaders are a really nice shifting transmission - every bit as good as a Muncie IMO.

Is the top loader a close or wide ratio?
I have a close ratio and I don’t like it on the streets first gear is too tall.

Yes I am still here, it is a wide ratio, I rebuilt it with a kit and some other parts from Dan Williams been 20 years so I don’t remember everything I replaced, but it shifts nice never had any problems with it. I thought I saw that Hurst shifter and linkage for around $500 I guess it was a different model? I will try to find my receipts to know what parts I replaced. Thanks for the input

I will be interested to hear your thoughts after the change, Mr, as I chose the wide ratio for that very reason. Driving the close ratio, it did not feel like I was grabbing enough gear on shifts... |

I sold a CR top loader that had some miles on the rebuild, Hurst shift linkage, repo shift lever, old clutch and pressure plate $1,200. Trans worked flawlessly. Replaced with a TKO that had a 5th gear. This was about 5 years ago.

Does the TKO bolt in, or do I have to change scattered shield and driveshaft yoke?

I think the toploader has a shorter input shaft, but you can use a spacer, so not bell change... hope I don't have that backwards, but it wouldn't be the first time! :LOL:

I was able to keep the bell housing but needed a new drive shaft. Not sure about other mods. I got rid of the HTOB at the same time as install. The shifter position has options so it lined up perfectly.
