convert t5 manual speedo to electronic?
91 mustang t5 going into my CRII. Had mechanical speedo, but I'm going with a Smiths electronic speedo. I almost bought the Autometer 5292 pug in sending unit for Fords until I read that its only for their gauges. From what I understand, it needs to be a hall effect sending unit. What have others used?
Thanks! |
I have a GPS Speedo and just plugged the speedo hole on the transmission. Mine is F5 but this is the company that makes them: https://www.speedhut.com/gauges/?catid=f19 These speedos work really well and acquire quickly.
The plug I used for the speedo hole on the T5: https://fortesparts.com/product/fort...ter-hole-plug/ Had a leak from the speedo hole before I installed the plug. |

The Classic instruments SN16F kit should work for you.
Replaces the cable output of the T-5 and has a 16,000PPM (pulse per mile output) Your Smiths gauge is adjustable to 120,000ppm. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/cin-sn16f?rrec=true Wiring setup pages 1-4 https://static.speedwaymotors.com/pdf/275-820.pdf (See the note below the Smiths connection chart for the Red wire for the sender to get power to function) "Note: Red wire connection is only required for some 3 wire sensors. Connect to 12volts for NPN type sensors" https://www.caigauge.com/documents//...2-460-3028.pdf |
