!995 Mustang Cobra Tranny...
What is the difference between a 95 5.0 Cobra trans and the GT?
Junkyard man tells me they are not the same.

I wonder if you found this out yet...
I believe that the Mustang Cobra tranny is a tremec 3550 tranny...

Not a Tremec 3550. The Cobra tranny was just another iteration of the T-5. It is stronger than all the T-5's before it. I still have the original T-5 in my 95 Cobra that has lived with 330 - 400 RWHP for 94K miles. I did put a hardened input shaft on it though. A note of caution: The 94-95 T-5's have a longer input shaft than 87-93. Hence they require a different bell housing. If you get this tranny, go ahead and put a 87-93 hardened input shaft on it. It will increase strength and allow you to run a 87-93 lakewood or McCleod scattershield. There is no aftermarket bell for 94-95.

Scott;
The 95 Mustsang Cobra-R has the Tremec,I believe the others have a T-5. I do not think you'll find a Cobra-R in the junkyard,but you never know....

Hi Scott,
The Cobra R had a 3550 Tremec. All others were world class t-5's.

I have the 95 Cobra tranny in my Cobra.. if you get it make sure to get the clutch shield that comes with it. The spindle length is different and the stock shield will not work with it. the transmission is called the T5Z model..

Input shaft and bearing. The Cobra is better than the GT.
I still destroyed one behind a ~480rwhp 302. It lasted for years at ~450rwhp.
FWIW.

What was the purpose of the input shaft being longer for that short production span?? Why was it required??
