Richmond super T10 & overbore 347 combo?

I spoke to my engine builder the other day and he reckons I should shoot for the T10 Four speed, due to weight of box and price, but I am not sure they will handle the power of this proposed engine:

Dart four bolt splayed cap Ford smallblock, over bore it using 347 combination but go bigger around 350, (this guy build some of the quickest Ford engines in this country) AFR 185 or 205 heads, Holley Pro 750 db carb, Probe valve gear etc, and maybe a good hydraulic cam, he reckons 7500rpm wont be a problem, and the engine should pull from above 3000rpm to 8000rpm if necessary, I am not a rev man but it sounds good as if I keep the running gear lighter with the Super T10 and alloy 8.8!

Any experiences of these transmissions etc

Hi Ant from across the pond **)

Given that you seem to have weight as a priority.

What about a T5 ..... not a normal T5.....Not a Word class T5

but one of these T5's:

Should handle the 347.....will change beautifully, and should be as light as you'd want.

Take your pick of dog or synchro.

You take care

A Richmond T-10 would be the equivalent of a Muncie insofar as strength is concerned. A Toploader would be stronger and more period to the car. A TKO II would be the best option if you wanted a five speed.

Cal Metal,

I had a big shaft TL behind the FE, great transmission, but quite heavy and of course being heavy they handle almost anything. I dont know whether its worth going to a lighter trans, as they dont last.

Regarding the TKO II I can't be bothered with the high overdriven fifth gear, even though cruising in a low revving machine is good, I am going to run 3.08 rear gears, and would be quite happy with a 1.1 top cog!

A lot of guys run a very steep rear end ratio, I suppose this leaves the bottom four ratios quite low and closer, and utilizing a .58 fifth gives a good cruising number!
