Need help with Tremec
351 stroker with 20K miles and suddenly shifting...well....sloppy. Best way to describe it is that it feels like the bolts that attach the shift lever have loosened, but that's not the case. My first thought is that the shifter ball on the end of the shift lever might be badly worn, but why would the problem happen suddenly? Might it be worn lugs, and if so, after so few miles? Is there a bushing around the ball that might have taken a dump? Talk to me.

Might be fork wear? Is it all gears, or just ones on the same side (1 & 2 on one fork, 3 & 4 on another, 5 & r on third)?
Pull the drain plug and look for bronze in the oil.
Check out your parts manual and service manual here: http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English...ts/TR-3550.asp
If it comes down to it, can you pull the top plate off the shifter to view the shift rails?

I would start by looking at the two pins that shifter is held in with, one points towards the front of the car, the other towards the rear. They are just underneith the rubber cover that is held on with four 10mm bolts, the two pins are really bolts with a 16mm (5/8") head. The shifter ball does sit in a nylon cup, that could have split. Remove the previously mentioned six bolts and pull shifterassy straight up to check.
