tko hard power shift
 
i recently installed tko and twin disk mcloed chulch and bell housing i got a clutch cable only and i adjusted it right but i have a problem that i can't seem to power shift this transmission at 6800 rpm for some reason can any body help my with suggestions.and also the gear just doesn't go in the major problem is 2nd to 3rd shift.

whats up?...is it a t.k.o 600 or 500 you have?..if sooo call tremec...and tell them about the problem,,the whould be able to hep you..they helped me

To shift one of these transmissions fast, the clutch has to be set up perfectly. Everything has to be perfectly aligned and the proper air gap has to be obtained.

TKO's aren't really made for shifting at that rpm anyway. The reason they can take so much torque is because of the size of the gears. In a synchronized situation, it takes a little longer to get the inertia of those big gears to go which way you need it to go.

You have the wrong clutch for powershifting
 
PSERRA P, If you don't give that clutch enought clearance between the floater and the discs, it will drag. This is not a good speed shifting clutch. It's for holding onto large motors with 600+ HP and Torque. TOO much moving mass also. You should have gone with a multi disc like a tilton 2 or 3 disc setup like 8". You keep banging gears in that trans and you will also bend the forks, wear out the fork guards, break blockers, and or round synco's. IMO you should have gone with a super street richmond 5 spd. It will take the same abuse, has less shafts inside and again IMO a better designed trans. Gears are cut at a lesser angle to handle more load. If you want to keep power shifting go to a single 11" disc setup. Stay away from centerforce clutches. At high rpms they cause the same problem. I know it cost me $5,500.00 dollars to find this out after many phone calls to there tech department. Rick L.

Hopefully you're using a rev limiter. :LOL:

I had a tough time getting used the shift from 2nd to 3rd using a TKO 600. A short throw shift kit might help a little. The faster you try to shift and jam it into to 3rd, the more it'll fight you. You can be smooth and fast, without putting a ton of forward pressure on the shifter.

I've missed a few 2nd to 3rd shifts at lower RPM's with a short throw shifter. You just need to concentrate and shift it just a tad slower with a Tremec. Driven a lot of 4 speeds and never missed the shifts like I have done with the Tremec. Thankfully, practice helps, so the occurrence is much less now as compared to a few years ago.

I have the same trouble with my TKO600, and I'm not that high on the RPMs. Funny thing is I ran an early TKO when they first came out in a fox body mustang with a vortech supercharger and I could slam 3rd all day long. I went to a steeda tri-ax on the TKO600 and it helps a little, but the best way to get into 3rd for me is to try to shift slower, thats hard to do since the brain is screaming at you to jam in into 3rd. its downright embarrassing to miss 3rd gear like some kinda rookie :CRY:

Install a Pro 5.0 billet shifter on a TKO and you will greatly improve your 2-3 shifts. That and a shorter stick (Jordan) really helped me.

I think part of the reason for that is that the early Tremec 3550 and TKO transmissions didn't have nearly the torque capacity of the new 500's and 600's. The gears were a lot smaller and you could get them to accelerate/decelerate quicker.

We can do some different things to the TKO's to help the shifting. The cone part of the gear can be roughed up a little bit instead of having the mirror finish. This allows the synchronizer to grab on to the gear quicker and spin it up/down quicker.

TKO Shifting Problem
 
This may help fix the problem.

Tremec has identified a range of TKO serial numbers that had bad shift lugs. If you contact them they will send you replacement parts and as I understand instructions for installation.

That being said TKO's as others have pointed out do not like to be shifted quickly above 6000. A smaller diameter disc(s) will go a long way towards improving the shifting experience.

Break in the transmision with easy shifts in lower RPM range for about 500 miles. Things need to settle in before spirited use. It will shift like butter after break in.

You should be able to get .25 second or so shifts after break in.

Shifting problems 2nd to tirrrrd
 
Ok I have herd and read alot with many good suggestions.We have the exact same thing going on here.Read what the makers say.To say the least I was disapionted..TTC Automotive.com go to production Liturature. They say not to shift at that high of an RPM.Im really thinking about selling ours:CRY: and going to a Jerico .Ther is one thing that was suggested by Fortes and that is to change out the shifter linkage ends inside the tranni apperantly ther is a problem when they haven't been pollished from the factory and they hang up.I have got mine already but have yet to put them in,If you would like to talk more on this matter, pm me and We can exchange #rs..WB3

Tremec trannys are notorious for missing 2-3 shifts when power shifting.

Convert to the short shift linkage or slow down your 2-3 shift with the long shifter.

Just a fact of life with these boxes.

Also check the bellhousing alignment.. The TKO600 seems to be a bit more sensitive about that.
