Anyone out there using a mechanical reverse Smiths speedo with these transmissions.? If, so how was the factory calibration and have you had any problems?

Keep the shiny side up!!

I have the reverse Smith and a Termec TKO in my SPF. Actually this is a vey common configuration. I have not checked my speedo against a GPS, but I think it is very close. I have heard of some variation, but nothing more than a few MPH. I have alos seen posts of complete failure, but they are isolated.. No trends to speak of.

Do you have a specific problem?

Hi,
Here in the UK, once completed, every self built vehicle has to pass SVA (Single Vehicle Approval), which includes a rolling road speedo calibration check. I can confirm that a STANDARD rotation 170mph Smiths speedo/TKO and 3.31 diff is bang on calibration.

Your question is confusing. Factory cal is not a issue.
You go to the tremec ratio calculator and input your rear tire size, and rear end ratio and out comes the color of the gear you need in the TKO. Mine was a 16 T (purple, I think) get for $6.00 at any Ford dealer. In the cable hole on trannie, put the "correct " gear on the cable and insert in hole. speed is now right on.

GN:
Is the Tremec Ration Calculator you mention in your post available via the web? If so, where?

Thanks Niles,
I finally go it figured out. Your a correct. Got my tire size/rear end ratio and bought the right gear. It is spot on.
Thanks for the info. Still have a problem with the needle bouncing around 10 mph, but I am going to re-lube with white grease and see what happens. I don't have any kinks in the cable. I read somewhere the reverse drive could be a little dry and also it takes some time to get the plastic gears set in.
Any comments?
Mark
