T-5 to replace C-4
I have a Shell Valley Cobra currently with a C-4 trans. I also have a rebuilt T-5 on the shelf in my garage that I plan on swapping in. Will a bellhousing from a 87-93 5.0 fit my 302? My 302 has a 6 bolt bell housing surface. Not sure of the engines year. Are all 302's the same bolt pattern? What about flywheel weight? Can I just get everything from a 87-93 5.0??

bellhousing will fit. All 302 blocks are 6 bolt.
If you have a pre 5.0 HO engine (most likely) you'll need a 28oz flywheel instead of the 50.0 oz flywheel. I'd get a flywheel that's the same as the mustang's except for the weight. (I'm not sure who sells them, I know ford motorsport sells the 50oz ones for $99) That way you can go with the cheap later style clutches. I don't know how you'd setup the clutch tho. Hydraulic/cable/z-bar that depends on how you want to do it. If you go cable, go with the 87-93 style stuff. -steve in nj- |
Thanks for the help Steve. I thought some early 302's had 5 bolt bellhousings. Anyway, as long as all 6 bolts are the same pattern I should be fine. I will probablt stick with the cable operated clutch. I will have to pull off the starter to see what year the engine is for the flywheel issue. I thought they were balanced by the Harmonic balancer?? Very interesting pictures by the way.
