Tremec transmission modification
Gentlemen:
I am replacing my 302, T-5 tranny with a 408 stroker, tremec 3550 tranny. I am told that there is a modification that has to be made to the back end of the 3550 to fit in my transmission mount on my factory five. Also, will the drive shaft (shortened 87 mustang) I used on the T-5 slide onto the back of the 3550? Your expertise is much appreciated. |
There is a large casting boss on the bottom of the 3550 tailhousing that will need to be removed to clear the crossmember
I use a sawzall and cut the boss flush with the bottom of the tailhousing. If you have a standard 3550 the stock 28 spline Mustang driveshaft yoke will fit. If you have a 3550 TKO, you will need a 31 spline yoke HTH, Mike |
Hi Mike,
The Tremec tailhousing has a boss on the bottom that will need to be cut off. A Sawzall will do it with ease. If you are going to use a McLeod bellhousing, the 4 front mount holes will need to be opened up to clear the 1/2 bolts the McLeod bellhousing uses. I sell the Tremec all machined to fit the FFR chassis and McLeod bellhousing too. Call me with any questions. |
Mike, could you put a listing of parts you make and/or sell in the parts for sale section or somewhere so guys that need stuff like this knew who to ask.
I've had to make up some nut-ball items for my CR or draw them up, and take to a welding and fab shop. Frame mounts that use aftermarket Energy Suspension polyurethane motor mounts for SBF. Aluminum puck to use BBK aftermarket clutch cable and firewall adjuster. BBK clucth cable quadrant grafted to CR upper clutch pedal arm. Sidepipe heat shields. Brackets to mount OEM front and rear bumper hoops to CR chassis. Feels like I've completed ME 332, Brackets and Mounts. |
