aode shifting down byitself. why?

Lately my trans has been down shifting while im driving. Sometimes i'll be on the express way and it will down shift and jump to 5500rpms stay there for a couple of seconds then shift up again. I'm wondering what is making it do this. Is it the computer or could it be the trans itself? Has anyone ever had this problem and what did you do to fix it? Any ideas on what to do or what may be making this happen would help. By the way it's a 95 gt and the trans is a aode.

Sounds like it could be a bad solenoid but take the car and have the computer scanned for codes to be sure.

The check engine light is on but the scanner won't scan for some reason. I put my little scanner on it and it would not work then i took it to ford and the could not get there scanner to work on it. Thats why i think it could be the computer but i don't no.

If the light is on that is a sign of a computer related fault in the system. With out being able to scan it you can not find out what is triggering the MIL. I have never run across a computer that would not scan and still make the car run.
What type of scanner are you using? Have you tried an independent shop? Some of the after market scanners may get into the computer.
Good luck and let us know what you find out.
