Exterior toploader finish

I have a great toploader, rebuilt with David Kee's deluxe kit (thanks to K. Wilson) that I am finishing off. It has been hot soaked and all. Need to sand some more paint off. How would you finish it (assuming paint)? Primer coat, paint types, etc.

HEY MIKE
CATCH A RIDE WITH SOME THE BOYS FROM HUNTSVILLE THIS SATURDAY AND GO ON A CRUISE WITH US TO THE JACK DANIELS DISTRIILERY. WE ARE LEAVING MY HOUSE AT 12 NOON. WE MAY RETURN BY WAY OF HVS. WE HAVE FOUR OR FIVE COBRAS GOING. A NICE ROAD TRIP THU LAWRENCEBURG TO THE DISTRILLERY.
HOW YOUR COBRA PROJECT COMING ALONG?

Unless you have an aluminium case I would just paint it black. Not many will be looking at it anyway. You may be going to too much prep work for the transmission.
One can of med gloss Krylon black paint
No masking
One hour install
The drive-PRICELESS!

Don't paint the input shaft, throw-out bear collar ( front bearing retainer ? ) or the speedo opening. You'll be sorry.

I ended up replacing the bearing retainer as the throwout bearing stuck and then I pryed and well, you can imagine the rest.

Clois makes a good point, unless you are turning your car over and saying, "look how nice the transmission looks." you might be better off getting a can of black and let it be.

Feels good to rebuild it yourself... though, doesn't it?

Thanks. I bought the parts, K Wilson did the rebuild...I am not sure I could have done that myself. Black Krylon it is, all pointers were the same as K Wilson's. Just checking on what the community thought.

When I rebuilt mine, a can of cast blast paint was included in the rebuild kit....that's what I used....I think some pics are in my gallery. It looked awesome.

I painted my T-10 with a a cast iron finish that replicates fresh cast iron. It looks pretty good and was easy to do while apart.

If you really want to be anal, I recall that the the 10 bolt TC transmission in my original Cobra was flat black rather than gloss or semi gloss. You wouldn't want to lose any style points, would you?

I wonder what color Evan's tranny is? :)

I thought my kit was supposed to come with that too...must not have looked at the options close enough. What is cast blast? Can it be bought in a store?

Cast blast is the same color as fresh cast iron when it comes out of the foundry. You can see pics in my gallery.

You can get Cast Blast from David Kee Toploaders....you can order it by the can...it's like $6-$7.

Or you can by stuff that's pretty much the same, but under a different name from Autozone/Advance Auto/PepBoys..
