C6 shifter
Hi. to all, need a bit of advice, I have been offered a hurst v matic shifter which bolts to the top of the c6 and has a rod linkage to operate the selector lever, It seemed a good way to go as a straight bolt on, it has a ball on the end of the stick which is cranked similar to the original. I have not seen the item in the flesh only a picture, it seems from the photo it may be too big(tall) for my dax cobra rep? anyone using one? seen one? or can offer any advice on its suitability? Thanks Dave:JEKYLHYDE

Measure
Hi Dave,
I would measure how far back the shifter sits on the trans, my C-6 is 33" long, only has a 8" drive shaft so the trans sits way back in the tunnel. I run a B&M quicksilver ratchet shifter with cable so you can move the shifter anywhere you want, farther up the console to get your arm clearance to shift. Good Luck, Perry. |
c6 shifter
Thanks Perry, I was thinking quicksilver or z gate myself, I'm pretty sure the v matic is a no go. dave:LOL:

Yo Dave,
Here's what I used: http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...c-002s-med.jpg It's the same shifter that Shelby feller used on some of the originals with C6s - his, for example & Cosby's - from a 1965 Mustang. It's pretty easy to install. You can use it with the stock neutral safety switch. The shifter arm on the transmission needs to be for a floor shifter. I got one of those from (I think) John's Mustang in Houston. The only other work involves changing the length of the shift rod by cutting and welding. This can be a simple task because you can use a shift rod with an elongated hole - most are made that way - the final length adjustment is done after it is installed by simply positioning it and tightening a nut. I like the way it looks compared with the dominating look of some of the larger aftermarket shifters - but, to each his own - especially with Cobras! Regards, Tom |
