Ah that's where they go.

The call out of the exploded view on david kee's website shows where the hatchet ones go. On top of the reverse shift rail and on top of the interlock pin. I should have researched that more, I blew it.

Here is the issue. Ford made about six different shift rail designs with different detents. When David sent you the rail kit with the hatchet head detent, the rails were made for that specific design. You cannot use the new rails with the old detents. The hatchet head are the best design and were used on the first Toploader.

The hatchet head detents goes on either side of the interlock pin.

I should check then...

I should call David and check for sure. The exploded view appears to show a round detent #24 on top of the 1-2 shift rail, and the hatchet ones #25 on either side of the interlock pin.

I have never had to take any of my t 5,s or top loaders apart, but on the old T 10 and T 85(same design on most stuff) we would take the detent assembly spring out an throw it away then cut down a piece of 1/4 drill rod to size between the detent balls so it could onyl be in one gear at a time. don't know what the inside of your trans detent looks like

The interlock pin, which is located on the 3-4 shift rail, accomplishes the same objective in making sure you cannot shift into two gears at the same time.
